Hello, world! My name is Effy, I'm 27...and I'm rejoining tumblr so I can have a place to practice my writing skills. I'd also love to connect with other writers for feedback, exercises, chats, etc.
I'm Asian-American and living in the Northeast. I enjoy reading, thinking of plots (that I never end up flushing out lol), drinking and talking about tea, and gushing about my cat. When it comes to the screen, I love watching shows like Bob's Burgers, Bojack Horseman, Derry Girls, Brooklyn 99, Friends, HIMYM (even though every time I re-watch it, I'm reminded of how poorly it's aged in such a short time), WandaVision, The Boys, and Peaky Blinders (though I'm only halfway through).
To jumpstart this writing tumblr I'm planning to start with fanfictions because the world's already built so it seems like a good way to ease myself back in. But who knows, I also might jump the gun and put up drafts of original ideas once in a while. As for which show/book/movie fanfics, I'm thinking I'll start with The Vampire Diaries because I've seen it at least 3 times and feel I understand the inner workings of the relationships, the characters, and the magical capabilities of the world.
I also might dissect some of the shows I watch and try to dig into why some relationships work and others don't (like why everyone loved Ross and Rachel but hated Rachel and Joey even though Ross was a douche and Joey was way more respectful of Rachel and her choices).
I personally mostly write about relationships because that's what I feel I know best. Will probably start off YA-style because the last time I wrote anything, it would definitely have been classified within that genre. But I'm interested in maturing my writing style and subjects (not necessarily in a nsfw way though).
My favorite author is Haruki Murakami and my favorite book by him is Norwegian Wood, though After Dark also really stuck with me. Another book I really enjoyed, off the top of my head, was The Brief History of the Dead, by Kevin Brockmeier.
Hoping to really get myself back in the habit of writing and to meet others with similar interests!
