R: Are there any writers (fanfic or otherwise) you consider an influence?

Absolutely! Sylvia Plath is foundational to me. Truman Capote’s style also resonated with me. Also, tons of YA novels influenced me when I was growing up: LM Montgomery, Sharon Creech (ugh though the controversy surrounding Walk Two Moons really breaks my heart), and Eve Bunting (omg Spying on Miss Mueller!).

As I’m reflecting on this, comic strip writers also have had a huuuuuge influence on me! Someone once said that AMOMK gives them Boy Meets World vibes (omg and I’ll get to TV writing in a sec), but I devoured family comic strips like FoxTrot by Bill Amend, like Baby Blues by Rick Kirkman and Jerry Scott. I would spend days at the Chapters bookstore on Richmond in Toronto just devouring anthology after anthology of their work, and I think they have shaped my approach to writing the AMOMK drabbles in particular! (I have just now found out that it’s now a Michaels 🥺).

I’ve gotten a lot of inspiration from comedy and TV/movie scriptwriters. Some of those people are: Mike Schur, Mindy Kaling, Issa Rae, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Paula Pell, Seth Meyers, Dave Chappelle, John Mulaney, Bo Burnham, Eddie Izzard, and Simon Rich.

I don’t follow this one comedian anymore for obvious reasons, but this person once said something about changing the structure of a piece (in their context, instead of ending with a killer punchline, starting with that punchline to challenge yourself on where to go next or how to elevate the bit) to play around with different ways to make jokes or stories land, which helps strengthen the foundation for the whole bit, and that stuck with me. 

As far as fanfic, I’ve had so many great conversations about writing with Roomie / @mochilatae and Shenee from Grown Ass Fandom! I’ve learned a lot 

And writers who have been really cool to watch do their thing are @venusiangguk, @whatifyoulivelikethat, @sahmfanficbts, @reliablemitten, @sunshinerainbowsbts, @hamsterclaw, @miscelunaaa, @kpopfanfictrash, @wwilloww, @smasmashie, @xjoonchildx, @kithtaehyung, @svgahigh, @aquagustd, @joheunsaram, and @floralseokjin! @playmetheclassics was one of the first people who reached out to me when I started posting here as well! I’m missing so many people, and there’s so much talent out there in our fanfic bubble, so here’s a post where many people have shared the love!

KELLY LOL this is my favorite headcanon for him bc it just feels SO VALID. that boy can't even finish a song half the time there's no way he's not flipping you around every 2 minutes - and he's definitely strong enough to get you into whatever position he wants 😩

i also feel like his dynamics are a controversial subjecttttt 👀 i definitely see him as having more sub/switch tendencies than dom but that's just meeeee 🙈 it's giving service top tbh!!! 🥵
