"Curran!! Curran!!”
Heinwald was ‘eccentric’ --- not by his own definition, but by the descriptions given about him by people like Euden and Cleo and most everyone else who spoke to him. He knew otherwise, of course. He knew all too well that it was expected that he was to be snappy when anyone came to interrupt him during a good read, whether it was to summon him to a meal or to inform him that he’d spent days on his own researching or not. He knew that taxidermy was charming, and the perfect way to preserve nature’s marvels for further observation in the future, and not at all creepy or frightening. He knew that when he was bored it was only natural to seek out mental stimulation.
Even if that meant barging into Curran’s room at three in the morning irritably banging his cane against the ground as he swept toward the bed and violently seizing him by the shoulder in an effort to shake him awake.
"How could you sleep at a time like this??!! It has been days since you’ve brought me another case!! I’m bored to tears!!”
tell me about heinwald's lordship place thing pigeon... does he like it there. is the weather nice
Despite not appearing so at all other than how pompous and bombastic his vocabulary can be, Heinwald is actually the ruling count to a pretty expansive march. He rules an area large enough that it’s essentially its own city-state within Alberia, but he’s still just as much a vassal to the current emperor as any other nobleman is. For the most part the land is pretty typical; I’m guessing the world of Dragalia Lost is still wrapped up in feudalism, so he has his fiefs and his serfs and they work and live and toil on his land and a percentage of all they make is sent back to him as taxation in his manor, and then a percentage of that is in turn sent to the emperor. It’s primarily agricultural. Most of the march consists of sweeping grassy fields and scattered woodland areas — the area is landlocked, but it has enough access to rivers relevant enough to local trade geography that it doesn’t really experience too many droughts. The primary issue facing any farms on the land is early frost since it’s just far north enough to run a little chillier. Its produce isn’t maize and rice, though, so it’s fine.
Most of what the march produces is pharmaceuticals. Its farms grow mushrooms and herbs and people forage for various plants and fungi in their respective fiefs to develop into potions, and those are bottled and sold or traded to surrounding marches within Alberia to bring in more of a profit. Any fruit that isn’t hardy and capable of surviving in a cooler environment like wildberries and apples tends to run at a steeper prince considering they have to be imported from a good ways away.
Heinwald’s manor looks average enough on the outside, but the inside looks as classic horror story-esque as anyone might expect from someone like him. He loves collecting mutant animals or fiend bits and preserving them, so he’s got plenty of taxidermy and multi-headed animals set in jars all over his house. His personal touches are starting to affect the appearance of the outside of the building, too. The people who actually live in the march think of him fondly; his father had been a wicked despot, and Heinwald had already proven himself both more effective as a politician and ruler and much more merciful a count than the previous one, but any passerbys or visitors who don’t live on his land immediately assume that his fixation on the occult must mean he’s some necromantic serial killer, so his reputation fluctuates wildly depending on how far to the outskirts of the land someone lives.
He likes it, he guesses. It’s fine land. It’s a fine manor. He does a fine job as count. He’d still rather his sister and her fianceé took over as count and countess instead, but considering how they both died he’s willing to make due with what he’s been given.
