              a pretty thought, albeit a novel one, to a cynic such as carton. to him, hope is such a foreign concept that he’s not certain he’s ever had it. his, truly, has been a wasted life. ask anyone. they’ll all tell you the same ; in all the world, is there anyone who is more a lost cause than sydney carton? at times, it feels as though he isn’t living at all. simply... existing. there is a difference. still, far be it from him to discourage the lady with his boorish opinions. all the same, there is a smirk at play on his lips as he lifts his glass in her direction & says, words slurring a little, as is his wont, “i’ll drink to that.”
