AHH! HEROES 5 THEMES AT LAST! Also can we appreciate the conductor man has going on. I'll take 20.
Translation:
Qian Gu Xiao | Eternal Laugh, by Jin Zhiwen
Wild and intractable from head to toe,
Living a life full of pride,
Within three inches of heavens and earth,
I sigh at the loneliness of the martial world.
.
Asking what's good, what's evil,
and with whom I can share a path?
.
The sun and moon shimmer,
and the river water blusters.
The wild geese crossing the air decide
if the sea is broader than the sky is high.
.
A stop at the mountain's summit
captures in one glance cloud tops and cerulean skies.
.
It matters not whether it's right or wrong,
in clamours, mortal loneliness, or gusty downpour,
Hero, here I am.
Why not? Whether the path ahead hides a frost-covered blade or wind-filing knife,
that is the worth of travelling the martial world.
.
Screaming to the skies: I want
the eagle to reach the ninth heaven, and race the sky.
Eternity laughs--
laughs at me, whose path ahead is always full of stormy seas.
Screaming to the skies: I want
right and wrong, victory and defeat, to be decided clearly.
And I'll drink a bottle, letting it burn my heart
at the end of the Earth.
.
The sun and moon shimmer,
and the river water blusters.
The wild geese crossing the air decide
if the sea is broader than the sky is high.
.
A stop at the mountain's summit
captures in one glance cloud tops and cerulean skies.
.
It matters not whether it's right or wrong,
in clamours, mortal loneliness, or gusty downpour,
Hero, here I am.
Why not? Whether the path ahead hides a frost-covered blade or wind-filing knife,
that is the worth of travelling the martial world.
.
Screaming to the skies: I want
the eagle to reach the ninth heaven, and race the sky.
Eternity laughs--
laughs at me, whose path ahead is always full of stormy seas.
Screaming to the skies: I want
right and wrong, victory and defeat, to be decided clearly.
And I'll drink a bottle, letting it burn my heart...
.
You say "hero". But who is a hero?
Let's see how it's decided today
Looking back, we once faced each other with a smile
No gold can buy an old friendship

Notes: I personally read this song as someone who possesses both immense pride / ego, and an understanding of their own helplessness as a mortal person. The vibe I get is that of a cry for larger-than-life greatness, for absolute control and unlimited freedom, while still facing, in calmer moments, vulnerability or imperfection. The greater part of the song reads as metaphors for me, or at least as symbolic images.
I mean, considering the themes in SYXSSYX, the lyrics are a perfect fit especially for Bai Choufei, but I also like to read them in a more general way, with the Jiang Hu being metaphorical.
This is a great song to meditate to. Mind-blowing song that will enlighten you. I really love this show. =)
