okay i’m going to finally write this out: as a child shouto wasn’t very sociable this being due to his upbringing, being isolated from his siblings, etc. and although he was a kind child, when it came to strangers he was shy- especially other children his age as he didn’t know how to interact or play with them.
along with this: children are mean but straight forward, shouto’s original shyness probably came off as being stuck up ( him being the son of endeavor and all ) so the other children formed a bad opinion of him to begin with, being jealous, angry that he might think he’s better than them. however, after the incident it became fueled too that the other children thought his scar to be quite ugly and disgusting. ( where did it come from ? is it contagious ? i don’t want to look at it. ) which more than likely was hard for even the teachers to look at, not making the situation any better ( children do as they are shown ) and along with shouto receding more into himself at school, this leaves for the more bolder kids of the class to act out on him. nothing big, just little childish pranks or whispering although one day as one of the kids gets angry because shouto is non-responsive, “ignoring them” so to say the child throws his juice at him.
this doesn’t go very well at all, shouto with the memory of his mom still fresh in his mind reacts without meaning to. ( he’s yelling. and he’s crying, it hurts more than anything. ) traumatized, all he sees is that moment as his ice lashes out and freezes over the entire classroom- leading to an evacuation of it by the teacher. no one’s allowed to go in until endeavor arrives, shouto hiding himself curled up behind the first miniature ice wall he’s ever made. ( this will become both his offense and defense later in life, who knew it could originate from this ? )
after this incident, some, in whispers thought of him to be a monster- a child with such a quirk that was this powerful already was scary. others said it was to be expected of the prodigal son of endeavor, his peers however only felt distance and fear. to the parents he was unstable and the school was allowing it due to the privilege granted by his father- a compromise came and shouto was removed from class for about a month or so before being added back in. although, from then on he’d learned to become comfortable with the space that separated him and other people.
