Shoot One Summary

I like the two different outcomes I have created here and believe that they both bare a good resemblance to the original but my input it clearly represented within the outcome. For my final image I have chosen to use the second example, this image I believe most fits the brief as we were asked to recreate an iconic image which this would fit in with much more effectively and is definitely more recognisable. I am not completely satisfied with this outcome however because of the body positioning and the absence of the hair movement; I think this is a vital factor within the original image so to create an accurate representation this signifier must be present. I will therefore go on to focus on this image, shooting several more frames which will allow me more to choose from and will also allow me to create the most accurate representation possible.

Within this image I was aiming to recreate the icon Bailey image of Jean Shrimpton. For this I analysed the original image looking at the body language, expression, clothing and make up so that I could adapt her persona to the best of my ability which means I can create a good representation of the original photograph.

There are definite similarities coming through within this image but I believe that it can be a lot stronger by improving certain aspects. The arms need to be stronger and more balanced within the frame, for this I need to lower the arm touching my head and bring the back arm around more creating a defined shape. I think my chin also needs to be raised a little more to create a space between that and my arm, this will add a nicer shape and composition. My face needs to be more towards the light so that it is less in shadows, this can be easily fixed by moving my body so that the light is further around my figure. Lastly the hair movement is regreatably absent in this image, I think this is a defining factor in the original image and therefore needs to be present within my representation. 

I will work on these improvements within my next shoot in which I will focus purely on this image to create a stronger outcome.

Shoot One

Following are a few images I created within this first shoot, for this I experimented with recreating a few specific images of Jean Shrimpton. Within these I tried to replicate the body language and expressions portrayed in the original images so that I could create the most accurate representation possible within the different shooting scenarios. For these images I chose to use natural daylight against a dark background, different to the original images which most likely would have been taken in a studio environment. I chose to do this because I often use this location for photographs and have therefore become very familiar with how to use the lighting effectively and it was also more convenient for me to have constant access to. For this we attached a dark coloured backdrop to the wall next to a window, I chose to use a dark background so that the images would bare more likeness to the originals but this also prevents the overall image from being too dark. The natural lighting proved to be strong and creates a high key aspect to the outcomes which I believe works well with the black and white images.
