Gideon hadn’t been awake for long. His prison sentence had been disrupted with the start of the blight. A horror he had never witnessed before that day in the Deep Roads when he’d been forced to fight for his life. Now he was doing research, horrified to find that magic was vilified and locked away. This was a strange new world, and he had to find a way to survive in it.

Having hidden himself away in an old elven temple, Gideon raised wards to keep his hiding place difficult to find. Erected barriers within the temple itself. Done everything he could to create distance from the outside world while he figured things out.

And, frustratingly, someone broke through all these defenses and found him. 

Grabbing his staff and jumping up from his books as someone entered the sanctuary, he was ready to cast a spell at the first sign of aggression. “State your business!”

    Fingers twitched over her bow, an arrow flying just slightly off course, missing the bulls-eye on the target. A huff left her lips, eyes narrowing at how sloppy she’d gotten after being holed up in the rookery for so long. The spymaster all but stomped in frustration up to the target, yanking the arrow out of the thing and staring at it as if it had been reason for her fumble. Maybe she’d have to take a few days off just to go hunting, get practice on moving targets. It wouldn’t do good for her to let her skills go slack. A step behind her broke Leliana from her thoughts and the woman had her arrow notched in an instant, pointed at the intruder, only to lower it in surprise. “Adala?” She mumbled. “You’re not supposed to be here for another week!”

“I—gah, look,” Morrigan takes the dangling spider and pulls it up into her hand, before ushering Adala out of the tent. When they’re both out, Morrigan takes the insect and flicks it into some indiscriminate corner of the camp. Fly free, little thing. “... So perhaps I might have been trying to slip a spider into a jar to see if I could fool Alistair into drinking from it. Or, you could pretend that I was not doing that, and watch him sputter like a fool at dinnertime! What say you?”
