On October 25, 1915, Alfred Hertz (1872-1942) was named conductor of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and conducted his first concert at the Curran Theatre. Hertz was a German born conductor who led the San Francisco Symphony from 1915-1930. He conducted the Symphony’s first recordings and radio broadcasts on the Standard Hour, and his bequest funded Hertz Hall on the UC Berkeley campus.
