DirkRoxy, A Conversation
As I was innocently perusing for beloved pale art of my fave bros, I happened upon the shipping controversy and I've decided to drop down my opinions on the matter.
The DirkRoxy tag is a field of, "Down with Cishet Dirk", ranging from casual annoyance to straight up hate for 'gay erasure'. People attacking poor fools who just want to ship some people. In my book, if it's fictional? Who cares.
I understand the problem though. Dirk is a character that is proven to have been interested in a male character. He doesn't see Roxy as a romantic interest, he just cares about her deeply as a person. That much is obvious. Unfortunately for the people screaming that they're done with DirkRoxy people, Dirk isn't gay. Hear me out before anyone starts slamming down on their keyboards in outrage. I'm not saying Dirk doesn't like boys, I'm not saying he likes girls. Dirk has expressed he doesn't want to use labels. Sure, this may just be him being confused or resistent, but we never got a conclusion to the way he feels about it! He never expressed anything past it. He doesn't want to be referred to as gay, bi, blah, blah, blah.
If I'm wrong I'm wrong, I'm not denying that, but there's no reason to blow up in people's faces over the matter. Not to mention, it's a fictional character being represented in a healthy, caring relationship with someone. Who cares, it's just people having fun and drawing two characters they like the dynamic of in a healthy way!! I'm just saying that just because you don't like something, it doesn't mean it's bad. Not to mention the fact that these people who are annoyed about the Dirk x Female things are practically quaking when people say that they're being offensive to straight people for making characters that like the opposite gender gay.
They are.
Many people do it to the point where they even knock out bisexual characters to make them strictly gay. It's a problem, and people should just let others do as they please so they don't contradict themselves or dig a hole. It's a fictional character being represented in a way that may be more comfortable, or just fun, for the person drawing, writing, roleplaying, or jusy fucking vibing.
Anyways, that's my take on it. 👌
Just be respectful, y'all. No need to make it a federal fucking case.
