Small wood-rotting fungi common in the SE of Australia, but less so in the SW.
The family is waiting for a major revision, however - DNA evidence has shown that morphology is not a good indicator of taxonomic relationships. As of 2022, only the recently described genus Dendrodacrys is monophyletic.

Heterotextus alpinus is a montane fungus with fruiting body conic to bell-shaped, gelatinous, up to 1.5 cm in diameter, pendulous, hanging from a lignicolous substrate via a point-like attachment.They are golden-yellow to reddish-orange, with a smooth and sticky surface and gelatinous texture [source].
It is found in America, and it has also been recorded in Iran. Specimen shown was photographed in the Tenth Region of Los Lagos, Chile.
