it was you that gave me the courage to be free of my shame. ❜ @heunmoor
shame was an unfortunate companion for armand. it hovered around him & whispered misgivings, encouraged him to repeat. had they been able to finish their discussion on evil some seven decades ago in paris, armand would have told louis he believed evil to be the shame that pushes men to act in fear, in silence. ( a motivation he is unfortunately familiar ) now, sitting once more in a candlelit cafe, shame & evil & wrong make their way to the conversation. this time armand has reason to feel shame. & he does, marginally. the reminder of his sins twists his expression. he attempts a laugh to cover it.
❝ what shame? i remember you pulling me from those shadows. you & your dealings, your collections. ❞ memory a warm expression. he closes his eyes as he sips the sparkling drink before him. ❝ perhaps your shame saved me from mine. ❞
