armand loved louis. maybe not correctly, maybe not enough. but he loved him, genuinely. and louis loved him. he would not torture louis like that.

he would, maybe, orchestrate the regina subplot. loving louis doesn’t negate his disdain for what he sees as claudia’s splintering of their relationship. i think armand is as assad has said.. an opportunist. for the intents of this blog, he saw louis actively paying this girl who looked exactly like claudia no attention and grew resentful, because what do you mean 70+ years i’ve spent atoning for something that you don’t even gaf about anymore.

fred steins: he felt annoyed by the interview process and saw a means to trip louis up, discount his memory. armand is an opportunist. i fear we all knew that back in s2 & the writers just had to hammer it home to make him seem planned. it wasn’t planned. he thought it’d be funny.

i DO also like having him visit AA. i think yes, in search of lestat’s bandmates. but also i think there’s a world in which armand finds a variety of religiously-oriented betterment groups across america & shadows them. it’s his nature

i think the majority of his s3 arc would be hunting down these factions of new vampires claiming allegiance to him/the children of darkness. he already kills unaffiliated fledglings in the books. he could definitely argue that, as he is no longer the coven leader, any following him would be coven-less? he wants lestat safe. it just seems to be an easy subplot they abandoned for no reason.

hours prior armand had seen his coven, once scattered, now those who remained unburnt, seated a row before him & turned, turned, turned. all smiling faces & styled hair. some he hardly recognized in their giddy expression.

as night had sent theatre guests to rest in their lush parisian feather-beds, the structure stood empty, save for a tour given to the new owner of commedia dell' arte, still yet to be renamed. newly sculpted eyebrows rise as he takes in the massive stage, the low lighting, the billowing curtains of deep burgundy, cream ( a mirror to a throat slashed open, almost felt too obvious. armand rolled his eyes ). it takes some effort to conceal the smile tugging at the muscle in his cheek. he, like his coven, ENRAPTURED! spellbound by lestat's generosity. armand spins on a raised heel, leather moving against a velveteen floor, & sighs. ❝ you are a visionary. ❞ it is hushed, wonder still seizing his voice. ❝ minutes pass here & i have forgotten decades underground. ❞

She lives in a world in which this encounter makes sense. Perhaps that is what gives him pause, what makes him adjust his footing. She was raised on the threat and the promise that there would be horror, and that that horror would find her. That horror justified all else. Monsters crawled through the stories she was told and gnawed on the holes in her imagination, populating the blank edges of her mental mappa mundi. His eyes make sense to a woman like her. His eyes that gleam out of his sculpted face with the numinous phosphorescence of the lycanthrope. Nobody else. Nobody else could see these eyes for the first time and understand that they have their place in this world.

She is a lone structure jutting out of the landscape; its immortal geology, laughing at them both. His words arrive in the manner of a boulder that has been here for millennia. Though she never heard his voice as one should, she is transfigured into a state of having-heard. The hearing is a concluded act. She has been put behind it. And she takes his meaning. She takes him for the lure that he is, seeking to push his spider-fingers into the mushy parts of her brain until he finds the brown spots.

Her chin lifts and her throat comes into play, a fine piece of anatomy, crowned with the lovely carotid. She can smell hunger three miles against the wind. He speaks her name which she never gave him, which he plucked out of her like a ripe berry, or the eye of a dead cow. Plopped it into his mouth and crushed it to pulp between his molars. Fear unfurls its butterfly wings, glass mosaics that jitter and slice through her thoughts. He is so beautiful, even like this, even starving, so beautiful she wants to spit on him. Why does he get to be beautiful?

"Peace?" She echoes, as if this were a foreign word. In her mind, she is three steps ahead, sees her naked feet twitching a foot above the ground. "If you wanted to give me peace, you would never have let me see you." Her numb lips split. Her reproach winds up to the tune of a hymnal. She is very tender when she speaks, tears pricking the edges of her doleful, beseeching eyes. "Now I have to go on, knowing that you exist in the world with me. ...What is the cure? It is not the right time. I've told the one that came before you. If you wanted to give me peace, you'd give me purpose."

armand can think of no purpose found in the dry expanse surrounding them. nothing but flickering ugly lights that beckoned hot grease, carbonation, & the heavy, sick scent of traveling bodies. & even that GROTESQUE DISPLAY was left some mile back. he thought of louis, who may have found this girl under a star-studded sky some sort of enigmatic wonder. found her some self-serving purpose in playing therapist. the thought pulls his lips thin, presses a laugh between at the pathetic thought. armand does not want to do that, to her & maybe for his own sake.

it's truly a heartwrenching display she puts on. each step he makes she, movelessly, infuriatingly, side-stepping. he considered leaping at her, all long limbs & animal-like. this tidal push-pull provides nothing but shaky ground on which to coax her toward the peaceful end. but exhaustion & habit are both clinging lovers that hold him in place. the offering of her neck; is it an offering? what kind of devil waits for a consenting victim? ( the kind that hunted st. anthony, the christ. the kind that carries temptation ). ❝ i cannot give you what isn't there! ❞ he swings a hand to the naked landscape, shifts strategy to a swift continued step step step toward her. he too, a now wet eyed creature. a pitying beast. ❝ miriam, ❞ more breathed than spoken. poor, poor miriam!

❝ i have found you, before they. ❞ there was always a THEY with these vagabond children, & in even the most basic brush aagainst her consciousness levels anxiety at their discovery. there was once armand had run away from his god-giver, too. young amadeo had run into the jaws of those who wished to hang his frame, remark on their perceived exotic find. ❝ what purpose would they have for you? or anyone else, for that matter! god does not listen. he'll rest your purpose into voracious, mercenary hands, mouths, leave you to rot in your holy, aureate penitentiary. ❞ maybe it is a gentleness, he thinks. if only there had been some tall stranger to save him before he ran too far. sink their teeth into his neck & SHUT OFF THE LIGHTS. ❝ the landscape is vacant, this is not a life, isn't a purpose. ❞ practically pouted.
