I got back from a first date and hour ago.
We arranged to meet at his favorite restaurant in East Lake View called Erwin's for dinner. I met him at the rather quiet bar and he ordered his favorite appetizer on the menu, fried green tomatoes that came with bacon. We conversed about all the places we've lived and where we'd like to vacation. As we finished our drinks, we decided to walk east to the lake. Half-way to the lakeshore we stopped at an ice-cream shop, the name of which I can’t recall.
As we walked closer to the water, finishing our dessert, we passed through a brightly lit underpass of Lake Shore Drive where and older gentle-man was playing freestyle jazz that echoed through the tunnel with amazing acoustics. We found a spot to sit close to the shore where we watched the boats on the lake and continued our conversation about Chicago and how interesting and different people from the mid-west are, as the clouds, lit by the city light, rolled in.
He was cold in his shorts and short-sleeve shirt so we wrapped our arms around each other. Staring into his beautiful big brown eyes, I felt something I’ve not experienced before. We both leaned in and kissed each-other.
Once it was time to leave, we walked back to the corner of his apartment, hand in hand and upon arrival shared another kiss.
I hailed a cab as he walked to his apartment and rode to a destination that would be a fifteen minute walk to my apartment so I could reflect on the night.
