Hexagram 17: "Following." Haiku and Commentary
Following the time, truth becomes self-evident. A great benefit.
6 Following at an impasse. Bound to your errors, motives are confused.
5 Truthfulness in good, following strength, flexible. Greatly auspicious.
4 Following your gains: a poor precedent. Return to humility.
3 Follow the adult: mature aims and aspira- tions. True rectitude.
2 Following the child: attaching to fantasies, failing to mature.
1 Adjusting to the times: thoughtful engagement in the world. Fruitful.
Lake over Thunder: Joyousness above, active creative energy below; the essential self joins with the emotional self in a mutual journey. That’s the good news. The bad news is that Lake is a bit of an air-head, and Thunder can easily be drawn into her whimsical adventures. The results are not always pretty. Again and again the ancient texts warn that the situation is “beneficial if correct.” The individual lines balance between the consequence of following the beneficial and the misdirected.
And when a lover’s heart wanders?
Though you now attach yourself to someone else, one day you will be free.
Good Fortune.
