it's a shock to her system, and she isn't sure she's successful in keeping it off of her face. she thought about her parents every day, of course. but thinking about them in WHAT IFs isn't easy. not when her brain works best with rules, with reality. certainly not when the man speaking to her now hadn't known her parents, didn't know that they now lived in the past tense. a reminder that the life she had now was one that they would never know. she's sure the look she's giving him is quizzical at best, and she takes a minute to drop her gaze long enough to figure out what she wants to say in response.

a few quick blinks, a reset, and she looks back to him with the ghost of a smile flickering on her lips. she takes a breath before nodding. " uhm, yeah. yes, i think they would be. " god, she hoped they would be. " that's ── so nice, really nice of you to say. "

SHE STICKS OUT LIKE A SORE THUMB. is it the long, golden pig tails that curl in slightly at the ends ? is it her BRIGHT ocean-blue eyes ? or perhaps it’s the tears streaming down PINK-BRUISED CHEEKS. it takes tenya a moment to process the situation. emotions were running high in the school after their exam results; it could be assumed that this student in particular didn’t ACHIEVE what they were hoping. 

invisible strings WRAP around the boy’s heart, slowly pulling him CLOSER & CLOSER until he’s right beside the girl. placing a hand on her shoulder, tenya applies a small amount of pressure as a symbol of REASSURANCE. results weren’t everything; they’re here to improve & become the BEST HEROES they can be after all, it’s only expected that they FAIL & FALTER every now and then.
