29. Favourite song lyric right now?
Damnit this is cruel. Why are the music ones so HARD?! Gah. Okay I’ll go with a lyric from one of my favourite songs that’s stuck with me for 20 years.
For me it’s the way Bowie sings the middle stanza. The crescendo with which he lists the attributes of this person he falls in love with at first sight as the world’s ending? SWOON. It’s just unhinged, unabashed excitement.
I’m sure there are other lyrics I love right now but this one has always just stuck with me and was the first thing to come to mind.

Alright instead of doing a copypasta, I’ll just give you 3 more singers that have inspired my style because the original 3 didn’t cover the full spectrum.
Janelle Monaé: the first time I heard “Tightrope”, their percussive style hooked me. I’ve adopted a lot of that in my own performances. A few years later this song came out and it remains one of my all time favourite tracks.
Annie Lennox: The way Annie yodels from her chest voice to her head voice is something I have done for YEARS. She’s an absolute beast of a vocalist and this song has was formative for me.
Wanya Morris: this man’s vocal runs make me want to improve. When I was a kid I would sit down and dissect his parts. I would slow down and practice to try and sing just like him; I never got even a little bit close, but it didn’t stop me from trying. Boyz II Men’s cover of Yesterday one of those songs I STUDIED until my ears and voice went numb.
34. What will always make you cry?
This song. Never fails. Listen to the lyrics and it will make sense. Also the way Lianne sings it. 🥺😭 We’ll talk about why I love her so much another day or if another one of y’all asks me the damn 3 singers question 😂
