Me getting ready for Halloween like
Oh god I'm so tired. Today has been so long and I'm really ready to pass out right now, so I'll try to make this quick but still informative? Lol, we'll see. Woke up with alarm at 7:15. Got to school by 8:50. Trial started at 9, and it was immediately apparent that the (mock) judge was going to be such a hardass on the lawyers the whole time. Like oh, it was bad. And I get they were doing it to see if they would falter, but like, I just felt bad for them the whole time cuz they were just getting yelled at, and some of it was like rules of evidence stuff when some of them are 2L's and haven't finished evidence yet...oy. Not good. It was kind of amusing though because the witness I was playing was the real dirtbag/pedophile behind the whole thing, but he (it's written as a man, and it's totally a man, but we pretended it was a woman) took a plea deal and this is the trial of his second wife....because he has two. Lol. I had all my testimony down pat though, and I felt like we did really well on direct. One of the people later said we sped through it, but I feel like they thought that just because we were on point and it went quickly because of that. I got compliments from several people for being a good witness, so that was nice. I had permission to be snarky on cross (I had wanted to crack jokes on direct but we decided to hold off) and I enjoy cross so much because the whole time I just sit there with this smug little look on my face and it drives the person insane, lol. I had so much fun. Definitely made it difficult for the defense, which is my job. So that was good. Rest of it was alright, nothing too crazy. After we combined cuz there was another trial (same case, other half of the team) going on in the other room (and they're definitely the A team, like its sadly obvious) and got notes, which took forever and definitely consisted of them getting reamed out more. But I guess it was all okay? We finished around 1, and I got something to eat with my partner and came back to work on our case for tomorrow, which we did until like 5:30 pm. Lots of editing and such, and making sure we're prepared for the things that they got yelled at about today (we were already warned not to make the same mistakes) and I'm all prepped for the possible objections I may get and I'm pretty satisfied with it. I really want to kick ass tomorrow, but I still have mixed feelings about whether I want this to end with me actually on the team or not. Cuz part of me really wants to tell them to shove it for shafting me in the first place, like...a big part of me, lol. Not in those terms obviously, but you get what I'm saying. And I worry about the effect the amount of time it would take up would have on the rest of my life and the many other things I have to do. I don't know, I guess we'll see what happens. Went home afterwards, and had a little moment on my way home as I was walking through my neighborhood. "Yours" by Steven Curtis Chapman came on my shuffle, which is a song I've always loved. I went through a big SCC period a few years back, and if honestly really helped me deal with a lot of stuff. But as I was walking through listening to the song I just got hit with this overwhelming feeling of gratitude for everything I have in my life. I love my neighborhood. I love my church. I love law school, despite the amount of work it entails. I love my job protecting kids. I love my city. And as much as I can still get grumpy about some things, I am really so happy about my life right now. Can I just tell you how amazing that is? I really don't think you can appreciate the full depths of happiness until you've known the other side so well, that true happiness in comparison is something beyond what you use to be able to even fathom. I'm just really happy, and I love that. I did decide to stop in for ice cream in town, because I've worked hard dammit and I deserve some ice cream, lol. When I got home I then had to work on memorizing my direct, cross, and closing, which clocked in at 2 1/2 pages and 10 paragraphs. I'm not all that confident I have it all down pat, especially because a good amount of it feels repetitive but just phrased differently, I feel like I'm gonna get tripped up on what version of the statement I have right then. But I mean, oh well, shit happens and this legit the best I can do under the circumstances. Hopefully some sleep with somehow cement it all in my mind before the trial starts at 9:30 am tomorrow. If the judge we have is anything like the one we had today, pray for me, please lol. It's not gonna be pretty.
Im gonna be sick on my birthday LOL!!
