Fingers roam over Cas’ back.

Small steps tracing the curve of his shoulder, shuffling along the dip of his spine and stumbling into the indentations of his vertebrae.

His finger-steps continue, pitter-pattering over the valleys and hills of Cas’ ribcage, the skin cool underneath his touch. The middle of winter brings with itself a chill to the walls of the bunker and although the home is worlds better than any possible dingy motel room, the ancient heating system leaves something to be desired.

Cas lays on his side, his back exposed to Dean’s wandering eyes, crinkled in a lazy smile that is fit for slow mornings only such as this one. The wool blanket which separates them from the crisp air of the room is tangled and rucked down around their waists, and Dean’s palm stills on the contour of Cas’ back before he fixes it, dragging the thick fabric back up over their bodies. It brushes against Cas’ collarbone, and he makes a noise- an odd sound that rumbles past his lips and rises in pitch like a question.

Dean’s smile widens, and he brushes his fingertips there once more, caressing a little up and down.

Cas pulls a face, nose scrunching, and although his eyes remain closed, he reaches blindly to grab Dean’s wrist.

“Ticklish, really?” Dean muses, voice low and rough with sleep, cautious to break the early-morning quiet that hangs in the air around them.

“No.”

Dean huffs an amused sound through his nose, sliding his hand down Cas’ own to trace the faint rise of veins in his wrist.

Grumbling something unintelligible, Cas turns to face Dean, adjusting himself along the warmth of his chest and pressing cold toes to Dean’s ankles, drowsy and comfortable. “M’not.”

“Mm, whatever you say.” Dean’s hand follows the soft crook of Cas’ elbow underneath the covers, rubbing at the crease there, and he can feel Cas’ obvious stifled laugh against his chest now.

His all-teeth smile earns him an empty chastisement.

It takes only a few more moments, a brush of Dean’s scruff underneath Cas’ chin and drag of calloused fingers, for Cas to hide laughter in Dean’s shoulder, stubbornly tucking the sound away into the flesh there while Dean reaches for it.

“Okay, okay, Dean-”

Cas' words are stolen by another laugh and Dean catches it within his mouth.

“Tell me again,” he’s laughing quietly, too, light and nearly childlike, “how you’re ‘not’  ticklish.”

It’s warm inside the covers now, cold air chased away by body heat and movement, and Cas catches Dean’s hands on his sides, traps them between his own and threads their fingers together to form something like a temple of skin and bone.

“You wouldn’t believe me if I did,” he chuckles.

“Maybe, maybe not,” Dean says, simple, easy, one hand slipping into Cas’ hair to rake it back off his forehead as they sink into silence again, catching their breath.

“I hope you know this isn’t a valid excuse not to fix the furnace,” Cas says eventually. He sits up and yawns, tipping his head back to stretch his neck while Dean contentedly studies the shadow of a day’s worth of stubble and the arc of his throat.

He thinks that Cas looks like he belongs here, that he deserves to be painted right now; captured in a still frame, dream-soft abstract lines and warm colors. Saccharine and grace scattering in the charming light.

Cas looks down at him and catches his eye. “Good morning.”

Dean breathes, slow. “Mornin’, Cas.”

The scent of breakfast-  bacon and eggs, toast and orange slices that Sam got at the local farmer's market - drifts sweetly through the bunker and for just a moment, just a second, they have all the time in the world.
