Just wanted to let you know that at VanCon 2011 Jensen was directly asked about Destiel. I don't remember his exact answer, but it ended with him saying that it's not what the show is about. So yes, it was asked prior to NjCon 2013.
I know stuff about DESTIEL has been asked, various times in JOKEY WAYS - like ‘do you ship destiel?’ or ‘what do you think about destiel?’ etc. Which is not terrible in itself - jokey questions at cons are fine, in fact they are often encouraged by staff and guests alike. But with Dean and Cas’ relationship, it’s got to the point where it’s NOT A JOKE anymore, and jokey questions about destiel have been confusing the issue, because Jensen (and others) don’t get (or certainly didn’t in 2011) that destiel = DEAN AND CAS’ RELATIONSHIP and NOT A JOKE. That it’s not just porn.
So I figure he was saying then ‘the show isn’t about sexualising or fetishising Dean and Cas’ relationship,’ which it’s not and that’s not what Dean/Cas or destiel is about either.
So as far as I understand it, even including that question at VanCon, no-one had asked outright ‘do you think Dean and Cas are in love?’ before NJCon. Certainly no one has ever asked about Dean’s sexuality, as far as I’m aware, apart from the attempt at NJCon. Though, as I said in my post before, after JIBcon perhaps we don’t need to. Idk.
