Of course there had more infected that had survived.
Heyleth should feel glad, but this random pale elf hardly looks trustworthy. She knows his type. If she didn't know any better, she'd say he was a vampire, but as he's standing in broad daylight, that's hardly possible.
And her instincts prove correct, as awlays!
What is it about her that brings the most questionable men around her, Heyleth wonders? And why is it she's so easily able to reason with them? The pale elf, Astarion he calls himself, is talked down within moments, and even invites himself along with their merry little group.
Heyleth still doesn't trust him, but she can't deny someone the chance to be rid of a mind flayer tadpole. There are few she'd ever wish that on.
First a pale elf, now a questionable arcane portal?
Ah, Heyleth did miss the pace of her early adventuring days!
Cautiously- and against Shadowheart's judgement- Heyleth touches the portal.
It zaps her, and she hisses, bringing her hand back. But then, a hand reaches out, and a voice cries for help.
The magic that pulses from the portal- or glyph- is strong. Heyleth pauses, and then quietly attempts to soothe it. A newfound arcane power surges through her. While she dreads to recall it's source, she can't deny- it feels good.
And it calms the chaotic magic long enough for her to pull the wizard stuck inside free!
Ah! A friendly and trustworthy face at last!
A wizard, named Gale, from Waterdeep! Not too far from Neverwinter at all. Heyleth is delighted to invite him into their group, once she learns he is infected like the rest of them.
There's something about his charming optimistic nature that reminds her of Minsc. Darn it... She'd kill to have Minsc here with her. He's probably worried sick back home...
Alas, for now, at least Heyleth has one companion she is confident is trustowrthy.
