I've seen a lot on my dash recently with people arguing over it...
But I feel like I need to make a statement regarding drama with some other fantroll review blogs to about Transgendered trolls. (I've got no plans to mention the names of the blogs in question, please don't ask.) I am fine with having transgendered trolls, though as always it's important to consider the universe that homestuck takes place in. To put it simply, having a transgendered troll and assuming that it will be fine to have your troll's entire personality revolve around it is going to make for a very flat character. That's absolutely NOT to say that it won't impact their personality-- transgendered culture and transphobia would definitely impact them. (I can't say for sure how trolls who are transgendered would fit in, seeing as it seems that gender roles are sort of moot on Alternia. In fact, it may be that it's just accepted that you may identify as you please since there are no canon specifications.) However, don't make this the only thing that makes them who they are. I'm sure most transgendered people would like to be thought of as more than the gender that they identify with, trolls should be treated the same. They should have likes and dislikes and be an individual rather than just being "someone who wants to be another gender". If you do want a character who is transgendered and entirely based around the struggles that they face, remember to make the characters dynamic. They need to grow and overcome obstacles and achieve goals, and that's key to making the character work. (This is true with all characters, but if you truly want your entire troll to be about being transgendered, then make sure you do it well and you do it sensibly.) And as always, do research on it so you know how to go about it without coming off as offensive. And keep in mind that you may get backlash because for many people being transgendered is a controversial topic. (As a general rule, don't assume a character is exactly like their creator. A person can have a transphobic troll and not be transphobic themselves. Controversy and disagreement is a part of storytelling, so don't attack someone because of their character.) Remember not to treat transgendered culture as a fetish, because it isn't. Other than that, go out and make your transexual fantrolls as much as you like, just make sure that you're not being intentionally offensive and make sure you know your character should always be more than their gender. And please, if you see someone who has a fantroll who is trans who may have worded something incorrectly or who may have unintentionally said something wrong, be polite and attempt to correct them without arguing with them. Transgendered characters can be hard to get down correctly without stepping on toes, especially if you're not transgendered, so please don't insult the character owner! They are probably trying! And if I'm incorrect in anything said here, please let me know! I'm not trans, so I'm not entirely familiar with the culture, and I'd love to do more advice later on on trans fantrolls later, though I think I'd need help myself to give proper advice!
So I'd like to make this blog a resource. (Mod Question.)
I've received a TON of fantrolls, and I notice that there's a pattern of people who seem to be having trouble theming a troll.
I was thinking that I should probably make a page to archive resources on the blog and to help you guys, I'd like to see what I can offer.
I was thinking that I could at least do a mini theming guide using one of my fantrolls to show you guys kind of what I mean by that.
I'd also still like to do the analysis of homestuck to examine the canon universe and all of that fun stuff.
So, today's mod question is: Are you guys interested in seeing a theming guide and analysis of Alternian Culture? And do you have any suggestions for future resource posts that I can create?
More stuff will be coming shortly, the next review is long. Don't worry, I'm not forgetting you guys. :)
Ack, I also forgot to mention that I'm willing to review Fanadventures as well, I just need to be given time. SO if anyone wants a fanadventure review, feel free to hit me up with a link.
I've added my own fantrolls for the followers to see, if they'd like.
Sorry that the quality of the images posted aren't spectacular, I'll have to get a better file after I type up their information.
I hope that you guys enjoy. uwu I do have more, but those are the two that have sprites done for them.
Expect another review tonight. ^w^
