The bookstores of Barcelona were beautiful, and I found treasures on their shelves. I discovered Carmen Laforet at La Central in Raval, I read on the lower level of the beautiful travel bookstore Altair. I browsed the used books at Hibernan and the shelves of Laie. All while reading the words of The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón: “Every time a book changes hands, every time someone runs his eyes down its pages, its spirit grows and strengthens.”
In Gracia in Barcelona, I hunted down Hibernan, a secondhand English bookshop. It was a gorgeous small, quirky store, and had many fascinating early editions. I selected The Happy City by Elvira Navarro and a small paperback of The Sun Also Rises by Hemingway.
