#115. Fuck Buttons
"Hidden XS"
Genre: Post-Rock, Noise-Rock, Electronic, Experimental Description: It was kind of surprising that Fuck Buttons' Slow Focus kind of came and went this year after Tarot Sport was such a landmark. It wasn't a huge step forwards or backwards creatively, so it seemed to me that more people should have been listening. It's entirely possible that the lack of buzz was due to the fact that the seven songs that make up the album don't seem as outwardly emotional as most of Tarot Sport... or maybe most people just didn't make it to the end of the album. Closer "Hidden XS" is absolutely in the top five best Fuck Buttons songs as it hits every note in their playbook right on the bullseye. It is epic, intense, provides a head rush and a sugar rush, and structurally sound. While it might lack the versatility of some other Fuck Buttons tracks, its steady focus gives it a sense of determination; it's a track that sounds like it's out to prove something by a band with nothing left to prove.

Best Tracks of 2013: Fuck Buttons - Hidden XS
Even though I really like and enjoy their music, I always face two problems when it comes to discussing it.
1. It is considered rude to say 'fuck buttons' in polite company (for example, 'Do you like Fuck Buttons?' can easily be misinterpreted).
2. It is really difficult to describe what Fuck Buttons music actually sounds like.
Anyway, after a four year absence, Fuck Buttons released their third album, Slow Focus, in 2013, and it is probably their best album so far. They make electronic noise (sorry, but it's the best I've got) that somehow comes together to make music like no-one else makes, and the epic 10 minute long album closer, Hidden XS, is my favourite track on the album.
