7. Grjótagjá Lava Cave, Lake Mývatn, North Iceland

Grjótagjá. A crack in the earth that opens into this. The water inside is too hot to touch — but the light it makes is something else entirely.

Holuhraun. Formed in 2014 — one of the largest lava eruptions in Iceland's recorded history. The earth is still cooling. Still forming. Still deciding what it wants to become.
