Halla! Jeg snakker litt Norsk og jeg er prøver å forbedre seg, kan du hjelpe? Tusen takk (sorry if this doesn’t make much sense I’m trying to practice my norwegian)
Heihei!! c: Ja, det kan jeg!!
No worries, love! It makes sense – and I truly do love it when people send me messages in Norwegian!! <3 You’re doing absolutely swell, though I hope you won’t mind some minor corrections??
Here’s your message with a few minor corrections (details on each correction below!):
“Halla! Jeg snakker litt norsk og jeg prøver å forbedre meg. Kan du hjelpe? Tusen takk. “
(You could also say “Kan du hjelpe meg?” here, but saying “Kan du hjelpe?” is fine as well!)
1. *-*-*-* In Norwegian the name of a language (alongside weekdays and months) is written with all lowercase letters! So it should be *norsk and not Norsk c:
2. *-*-*-* There is no present participle in Norwegian – or, technically there is, but it’s rather different from the English one and only used to turn a verb into an adjective (as in the phrase “the laughing man” –> “den leende mannen”).
However, most of the time when people think about the present participle in the English langauge, it’s in regards to a verb – in other words, when you’re explaining a currently on-going action ({verb}+ing) – and in Norwegian, this kind of present participle doesn’t really exist.
So while you can say “I am trying to….” in English when you want to put emphasis on the fact that the action is currently in progress, AND you can say “I try to…” when speaking generally about something— in Norwegian you simply use the normal present tense for both situations! (one less verb conjugation to memorize!! \ovo/ heck ye.)
Remember to not add an “er” (”am”) in there like you do when you’re using the present participle in English!
So;
“I try to improve” and “I’m trying to improve” would both be “Jeg prøver å forbedre meg.”
3. *-*-*-* Also, watch out for reflexive pronouns! Tricky lil’ things.
Meg - in regards to me
Deg - in regards to you
Seg - in regards to him/her/them
Since you’re referring to yourself (”I am trying to improve myself”) in this sentence, you should use *meg instead of seg.

Hope that helps!! <3 Please feel free to send more messages if you have any questions, or if you’d like to practice some more!
