75 Dollar Bill: Hideout Block Party 2017
Noted bestplace, The Hideout, threw themselves one hell of a party last year. With a gross/unnecessary real estate development slowly but surely creeping into the tranquil industrial zone it calls home, last year’s Block Party truly felt like a celebration of what makes that old converted house so special. It was hot. Unbearably, oppressively hot. I had also just finished a rather shite week from what I recall...enter, 75 Dollar Bill. The shapeshifting/trance-inducing duo of Che Chen & Rick Brown has been a favorite over the past few years, and they were kind enough to bring a larger ensemble through the midwest this time around. Augmented by lots of percussion, multiple basses and baritone, Rick & Che lead the group through many zones over three pieces before being joined by even more friends for a joyous cover of Ornette Coleman’s Friends and Neighbors. This set was extremely cathartic at the time and listening back, it still is. 75 Dollar Bill 9.23.2017 @ The Hideout Block Party Chicago, IL The Duchess I'm Not Trying to Wake Up Like Like Laundry Friends and Neighbors [Ornette Coleman] 75 Dollar Bill: Che Chen - guitar Rick Brown - wooden box, percussion with: Sue Garner - bass, percussion Cheryl Kingan - baritone sax Andrew Lafkas - contrabass Jim Pugliese - percussion Barry Weisblat - electronics, percussion Talice Lee - violin stream download
