Keeping our fins crossed that Monday really can’t see us if we don’t move. 🤞🏼
The Longspine thornyhead rockfish, Sebastolobus altivelis, is found throughout the eastern Pacific Ocean from the Aleutian Islands to Baja California at depths up to about 1,800 meters (about 5,900 feet). Like other rockfishes, this species grows slowly and may live to over 40 years! It can reach lengths of up to 40 centimeters (over one foot).
Thornyheads are demersal, which means they live on or near the seafloor. We usually find them patiently waiting for their next prey item to appear—which can include shrimp, crabs, zooplankton, amphipods, and other benthic invertebrates.
