Before she was the Queens Spade, Josalynn was still a trusted agent along with her husband who was the former Spade. During one of her quests to stop a mad sorcerer they were caught off guard and the sorcerer was able to launch a harrowing strike with his dying breath. It was intended to kill brave Josalynn out of spite for her landing the fatal blow against them, but her husband pushed her aside (mostly) and took the brunt of the spell instead, sadly costing his life. Josalynn was recovered by the Queens forces and nursed back to health though due to the hexes woven into the spell that struck her she was never able to fully heal back to her former self with magic thus she remains scarred. Not allowing this to crush her spirit she pressed on and became the new Spade and trusted companion to the other Queens Suits. That’s the summary version at least.
