So by the time this is posted it’s hopefully correctly on 8/23/2017. If it is scheduled right then: Today is my birthday. So it probably looks sad for me to draw something for myself, but this actually has another reason for this day.

Incoming sentimentalism:

Today is not only my birthday but it is the day where Svan and @hiemalstorm became a thing AND the beginning of this here blog Lavendernest. It’s pretty much a birthday/anniversary for all of the things I was put through: Bad things, good things, emotional and life changing things. I met Delia back in July, when she first started her Haumeric blog which I immediately took interest in because well…Ward stuff. I was surprised to see how kind and patient she was with me, enough that I managed to pull a brave face and break out of anon. She helped me get through a certain incident that dented my self confidence and mentality a bit, she helped me shape Svan up into who she is now with endless roleplaying and chatting. And it’s also because of her I met a lot of other nice people who stick with me when she can’t.

Even though now I can barely talk to Delia because of her life, she’s very dear to me and I’m thankful to have had the opportunity to meet her and her dorks. But anyway regarding this picture, Delia drew something similar for me that is still my phone background.

As a commemoration I decided to draw my own version based on it.

Doesn’t beat the original of course.

She knew the words well, even when her memory had been stolen from her. They were written across her shield arm, and even the fires of Ifrit could not tear them from her skin. It was one of the few things the Spinner had not taken from her.  It was one small shred of hope in a world that was violent and cruel and asked of her more and more each day.

Her heart sank when she finally heard those strange words.

“Be frozen to your very souls!”

Of course it had to be one of the Heaven’s Ward. One of the men she was rather certain didn’t have their own minds any longer. She could only pray that her words to him were not the ones that had been written on his body, that he’d at least had a soulmate who he’d gotten to spend time with. It was with a heavy heart and her voice thick with resolve and sorrow both that she called on the magic that would give Fleurelle and the other healer the precious time they needed to ensure those less steeled to taking hits were okay.

“So long as there is breath in me, my shield arm shall not falter!”

             The stars twinkled so vibrantly, the lights and constellations so familiar to the tainted chirgeon at times. It was always there, a moment in a childhood he did not speak of… It was a different change of pace, though where he was located at was something else.

It was near the middle of nowhere, close to a home that no longer held life, with flora buried in snow and ice. No… He would no say a word. Not to any of them. But seeing as the paladin has come hither and broke his reveries, Haumeric had to turn and regard his friend.

             Even with his affliction that had no cure, it warmed his heart to have him know what truly happened… (Though the scaring on his wing from the sword was something he would not speak of.)

             “… Adelphel? Pray, is aught amiss at this late bell?”

      The paladin shook his head gently as he shifted his weight from foot to foot a moment before finally taking a seat in the snow. It was cold, biting at him enough to cause a mild discomfort but not enough to make him stand again. He’d spent a few bells walking out to where Haumeric was and the rest was welcome.

“I... cannot be sure.” 

      What news Syabelth had passed on was concerning, to say the least. Even though the Warrior of Light had gone forth to slay Nidhogg and they had learned the truth of this cursed war the tidings from Ishgard were disheartening.

“There was strangeness he spoke of... I could not stay long for the streets are filled with Temple Knights. Ser Aymeric made attempt to petition the Archbishop and... and His Holiness has imprisoned the Lord Commander within the Vault. The streets smell of ash, especially in the Foundation.” He could not be certain what to think of it all and so his gaze drifted back up to the stars, hands pulling his knees up to his chest. It was exhausting to hide his identity, to slip into Ishgard via old and oft unused paths only few were privy to the existence of. To walk the streets actively avoiding the attention he used to seek out.

“T’is concerning. I know naught what to think of it all...”

The Fury Herself only knows what ill fate might have befallen her had Celestaux not valiantly defied my wishes and continued seeking the truth...!“I would forgive Lord Tedalgrinche de Dzemael nigh anything else; the petty cruelties he showered upon me are nothing to what was done to Joye. For that, I cannot forgive the man, no matter how well he now speaks of machinistry.”

(GIMME DAILY DOSE OF FEELS!) ‘☩’

Dear Haumeric,

     Pray forgive me the lack of formality as I address this to you.  After all the things that have come to pass however I must ask this one allowance.  Should this missive reach you then I am certain that Halone has accepted me into her halls and there I shall stand watch ever vigilant.  I would hope that this finds you well as I must confess I would wish no ill upon you.  Perhaps despite my inability to show it I had not relayed the sheer joy I took upon spending time conversing with you and discussing literature.  Truly some of my fondest memories are times spent with a chess board between us while the latest literature was being discussed.

Forgive me also this indulgence that to explain why.  For those who have their ear out it should come to no small surprise that before my time serving the Heavens’ Ward I was married.  I had a loving wife and together we had a son who was a charming and intelligent lad.  To say that I saw some of him in you would be no lie.  Perhaps it is mine own foolishness but I like to think that should he have grown the two of you could have had wonderful chess games and discourse.  However as things unfolded that was not to be. 

I would hope however that you can not find fault in an old man for such wishful thoughts.  I can only hope you will understand that I saw in you a brother in arms, a son that was not of mine own flesh and blood and a true friend.  I would hope that your future unfolds before you, you are truly a man with so much to offer.  I am proud to have called you brother and friend throughout the time I have known you.  Live your life to the fullest Haumeric.  It is such a fleeting thing that should not be squandered.  Live your life.  Laugh til it hurts.  Love deeply until such a time that Halone grants you entry to her halls and then I would hear of your life over one more game of chess.

              “I was operating on the notion you had shut off those nerves for your research. Had you not made a more potent form of a numbing agent to allow one to mend bone without feeling the actual shifting?”

“W-well yes but I have not taken any for if I get injured during work I-- owww, that pinched!!! -- I risk not feeling any potential damage done and causing a more severe injury.”      ‘more severe’ was an odd statement, seeing as the mage had managed to not only dislocate his knee but also his ankle on the same leg. It was not too difficult to simply pop them back into place, but then he had pinched a nerve and the resulting crippling pain had left him screaming and unable to reach for his own painkillers.

“Ehehe, I will have to take something once I return to my study. I cannot be taking up a bed here for too long for such a basic injury so I will be off shortly and back for my shift later. I think I have some non-drowsy formula left so do not worry, I shall not miss out on my duties.”

“I know that look. It wasn’t my fault Ser Haumeric, I swear.” A tiny, tiny lie about the source of the new claw marks that were soaking through his bandages. It was technically the fault of an irate ahriman but he suspected it wouldn’t matter to the cleric.

“Erm, well... in any case it was not on purpose.”
