So I finally caved and decided to start trying menstrual cups; partly because of the environment, and partly because I’m really sick of how pads and tampons feel on my body. I have so far tried two different brands, and I wanted to write a bit about it for my high cervix sisters benefit. (If you don’t know whether or not you have a high cervix, you can try to find your cervix by putting your fingers up your vaginal canal and feeling around for something that feels like the tip of your nose. It could be to the sides or straight up, if you can’t seem to get far enough to feel anything, you have a high cervix.)
First off, DO NOT use the sckoon cup if you have a high cervix. I didn’t realize just how far something could move up my vaginal canal, and when I went back online to check it out I found comments about bad experiences from high cervix ladies, but not until I hit the bottom of the comments section. I was finally able to get mine out by taking some deep breaths and literally pretending I was having a baby, and people were yelling at me to push. It was not fun and took about a half hour. Other girls have posted about needing to go to the instacare for a reportedly painful removal via speculum and forceps.
I had used it one day prior with some of the same issues but it wasn't as bad, and I'd actually purchased a diva cup. The diva sat low enough that it was super easy to put in and remove, but it put a kind of uncomfortable pressure on my pelvic muscles the whole time I wore it so I tried the stupid sckoon cup again. NEVER EVER AGAIN will I make that mistake. I'm going to try the diva cup again though, a little bit of pressure I can take over pads and tampons.
I would suggest it for people who had a bad experience here and want to try something else. When I measured the sckoon and diva cup side by side, they're technically the same length, it's just if you can reach the bottom of the diva cup you can squeeze and remove it (because the tail is 1/4 inch and thick, meaning squeezing it will actually give you a grip on the cup, and the cup is a softer silicone, easier to pinch). Whereas if you can reach the bottom of the sckoon you can pull the silicone tail and snap yourself in the vag. Because that's all you need when you're freaking out.
Good luck ladies. And be safe.
