Are there any pros or cons of a menstrual cup over pads? (I hate tampons so those are already out lol) I have a friend who swears by them but tbh it feels too taboo to talk to her about it.
Well, that depends on your body and what you like!
But some pros I can think of would be you don't have to switch it out as consistently as pads (just empty it occasionally), you can go swimming without worrying about blood, some people find them more comfortable than pads and less noisy and its often less messier if you want to have sex!
Some cons would be it does require putting the cup inside you which some people aren't comfortable with, it can be messy when you empty them, some people have trouble removing them and sometimes it takes a bit to figure out which is the right size for you!
That's what I can think of off the top of my head but I'd definitely recommend giving it a shot talking to your friend. It can be really helpful to get personal, first-hand information from others and one of the best ways to combat taboo is to talk about it.
Hope this helps, Anon! Let me know if you have any other questions. <3
okay so obviously we have all heard of vampires treating tampons as like. blood popsicles. but i raise you… just imagine…
menstrual cups. period discs. they can drink it straight up without annoying cotton in the way.
Question on stuff like cups and discs: how viable of an option would they be if you had a sleeve hymen, vulvar hypospadias, and labial hypertrophy? (I add the last thing because I find it rather difficult to do certain things down there due to it) My mother does NOT want me using tampons (for good reason IMO), but even the overnight pads aren't good enough sometimes because pads are finnicky and if you don't place them exactly right, you end up having to wash like 17 things, and don't even get me started on if you misplace it AND your flow is really heavy 😭
The hypertrophy might make it a bit harder undoubtedly so your concerns are valid though I don't think it should be A Big Issue nor should the hypospadias as long as ur already keeping urself clean and such, so I'm moreso worried about the sleeve hymen causing issues with insertion and removal. To actually put in a cup/disc you have to basically fold that sucker in half (like a U shape) and place it in you. It should open on its own when you actually have it placed inside you and it is VERY easy to manually adjust a cup compared to a tampon, you shouldn't be feeling either when it's placed correctly. Yes this all means you're eventually going to touch blood at some point :'] I truly cannot stress my advice of "please learn to get comfortable looking at and touching Down There TM" enough
Overall I would say it's 100% worth giving it a shot, even if there might be an extra learning curve with how to finagle with your anatomy about it, assuming it's hypothetically completely compatible.
People who use those silicone period cup thingys, I have questions
Firstly, how secure do you feel that they won’t fall out
Secondly, how do you know they won’t get stuck up there
Thirdly, how often/do they leak??
Fourthly, how often do you have to empty them out?
Fifthly, which one do you recommend?
Google is not helping me
I just got an email about the Merula cup and I'm curious what heavy bleeders are saying. I want to switch from tampons but the Diva cup hurts too much. Something about the suction and my autism + the Endometriosis and my pain.
I don't want to use tampons anymore because they just fill up too easily (even the Ultras) and I'm going through pads too quickly. But I'm not sure which menstrual cup or disc to use that won't cause discomfort or ick with the suction.
fellow uterus-havers. fellow monthly-bleeding-havers. do yourselves a favor. buy a menstrual cup. thank me later. holy shit. I got the Honey Pot and I’ve just had this thing for a day and like, where tf have you been all my life. I’d imagine it’s probably easier to put in and remove if you’re not a virgin but it fits like a tampon so idk one of the best parts is that the risk of TSS with a cup is so much drastically lower than a tampon it’s practically nonexistent (bc the good ones are made of medical-grade silicon), so you can wear it overnight common advice is to leave the thing in for a max of 12hrs but that’s less bc of TSS risk and more bc that’s the usual maximum capacity before it starts overflowing and it functions on suction seal, not absorbency, so once it’s in there, you’re good to go (I always have tampons leak on me well before they’re full) and also bc it’s silicon and just holds the blood instead of absorbing it, there’s no risk of taking it out too early and feeling like you’ve just ripped out your entire guts through your vag and it has a shelf-life of like 10yrs if you take care of it properly—I will literally no longer have a cycle to contain before I need to replace it there is a bit of a learning curve to put it in correctly (I recommend doubling up with a pad until you get the hang of it), and taking it out is a bit of an ordeal in my (in)experience, and you’re gonna want to have a sink within reach to rinse the thing off before putting it back in, but really, c’mon
no more sleeping-on-your-cycle anxiety
no more scrambling for pads/tampons bc you forgot to buy them (and choking on the price tags bc uterus tax is some bullshit)
no more stinky
no more rushing to the bathroom in the middle of your shift/class/sporting event/whatever else you’re doing bc you’re pretty sure your product of choice is leaking
no more constantly having to manage the damn thing over the course of your day
(for us cisn'ts) no more 'going to the bathroom is even more of a nightmare when your blood moon is up than it is normally'
literally set-it-and-forget-it type blood moon hygiene, I am obsessed
