Then vs Now

The high cost of living. We all have come to know the high cost of living in one way or another. Landlords, cost of rent, living expenses, electric bills, heat, and the list that is the manifesto of the high cost of living goes on and on. And it's hard, and for our generation our parents and elders have this idea that we are on their level, the level of easily managing our finances and living on our own. Then vs now, who had it easier? I feel like our generation is actually 10 times behind trying to catch up. The generations before has this idea that it's easy to catch up, but truth be told it's actually hard. Cost of living was cheaper then vs now. Why didn't we have home economics class that taught us how to balance a check book? Why didn't they teach us how to manage our finances? We ask all these questions, and where are all the answers? We go to school to get degrees so we get careers that will get us out of our parents place and out on our own, but what happens when we graduate? Some of us can't get anything, and have to wait tables or run food to make ends meet. And that's not to say that it's a bad thing to do that, but what happens when we start to want more? When desire and ambition hit and we get tired of the day to day routine? The generations before, different time different scenarios. Either enter the work force or join the military! We reach out to therapists because we aren't taught proper coping mechanisms or how to handle real life situations, which leads to anxiety which leads depression aka the products of the high cost of living. The beat just goes on, a march of dimes and pennies so that we can make it to the next day. I wonder what the next generation will think of us; will there be another writer like this one blogging about then vs now. I hope so.

Truly .. it's a sad statement. A combination of expensive healthcare (link is external), a high cost of living and unfriendly property taxes pull Vermont down to No. 50 in this ranking. Vermont's Medicare spending per capita is less compared to other states, and the state ranks as the second most expensive state for health insurance premiums, behind only Alaska. Plus, Social Security benefits are taxed to the extent they are taxed at the federal level.
