Today on Sistah Scifi Wine Down Wednesday: James Spooner!!! "Ramona Flowers" post below 100% speaks to the impact of James Spooner's work on creating space for the other Black experience. That was a leading input to inspiring Sistah Scifi and celebrating the intersection of Black & Indigenous culture and science fiction and fantasy the way James celebrated the intersection of Black culture & punk rock. Set your reminder, grab your drink, and see you tonight! Reposted from @blackramonaflowers NEW MERCH ALERT!!!! Taking a break from my usual lyrical captions to tell the void how JAZZED I am that this book is coming out. . . . *deep breath cause imma bout to give the speech* So word back in 2013, I realized that there were more people of color (read: [B]lack) whom like me, have a deep affinity to alternative culture/"the scene". I realized this through @spoonersnofun infamous indie, 'Afropunk' [documentary]. I learned I wasn't alone... and that there were pioneers who looked JUST LIKE ME that have been there since rock's INCEPTION. (In fact, what we know as rock and roll was invited by a [B]lack queer woman who was the daughter of american slaves 🤷🏾♀️) And it was at that moment I decided to dedicate a large part of myself acting as a historian and facilitator to keep it going. Im not too sure what that means. There's a myriad of facets to this shit. But I know back in 2017/18, I got to meet James and have been closely following (even studying) under his work. So I'm thrilled that this publication has arrived and I will dissecting this for the next while. 🤘🏾 The pre-order link is in his bio!!!! Thank you so much James, and every person within this community. Your work is greatly appreciated. . . . . . . . . . #highdesertnovel #highdesertgraphicnovel #bookalert #punkrockhistorian #punkrockliterature #punkrockcomics #jamesspooner #afropunk #afterafropunk #SistahScifi (at Sistah Scifi) https://www.instagram.com/p/ChpLPg7rsh5/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
