Road to Beyond Wonderland 2017 - Dreamstate at Beyond 2017

Genre: Progressive PsyTrance Label: Iboga Records
(Sunday) Once again Dreamstate has outdone itself. Although the production quality doesn't beat the other stages at Beyond, the vibe and atmosphere was by far the best. I very much preferred Day 1 Dreamstate over Day 2 just because of tech and psy - Day 2 was more of catch all trance, ranging from psy, tech, uplift, and prog. I sadly missed half of Waio's Dreamstate debut set, but of what I saw, he definitely had the energy going, despite getting an early 7 PM timeslot.
For Day 1, the lineup was Leiel -> Ruben de Ronde -> Chris Schweizer -> ReOrder -> Liquid Soul -> Vini Vici -> Simon Patterson -> Astrix.
The first person I saw was Chris Schweizer, and he played a great tech set getting the energy going. I did not see most of ReOrder just because I saw him at FSOE 450 in LA and wanted to go meet some of my friends, get water, etc.
Made it back in time for Liquid Soul, and boy did he kick the psy night right. Listening to him open with "Universe Inside Me" is eargasmic. Then transitioning to Vini Vici, that was my highlight set of the night. Yeah you can argue that musically Vini Vici is commercial psy, but that set brought everyone (all the trance families and totems, and that big octopus thing, even ran into my EDC friend), and there were so many lights and lasers going on, it was a really fun set! They played most of their big hits too like "Free Tibet," "Great Spirit," "Colors," etc. and is a huge improvement from their Beyond set last year in 2016 (wasn't able to see their Dreamstate 2016 set).
Simon Patterson took the stage after, and he brought the energy back to the underground with minimal lighting and tech/psy tracks. His set also conflicted with Illenium so most of the crowd dispersed. His set just had a different vibe than Vini Vici's big hype vibe.
King Astrix closed the night and contrary to what a lot of people thought, I thought Astrix played a very mellow set. He definitely took us to another dimension, but I felt that he was playing a good set to wind us down for the night. There was also a very small crowd, probably because Alison Wonderland was closing at the same time.
Overall, I had an amazing time and psytrance is the kind of music that doesn't stop. It just goes and goes and goes, no resting at all. It takes you to another dimension and melts your brain.
Now for the highlight song, "Anjuna" actually got stuck in my head when I was scrolling through songs to listen to after Day 1. It wasn't until a few days ago when I watched a recording of Liquid Soul's set did I find out that he actually played this track; it was subconsciously stuck in my head.
My favorite part of this song is at 5:20. The vocals done by Solar Kid and edited by Liquid Soul and Zyce, really evoke that psychedelic style. Then the Symbolic and Outsiders remix for the climax at 6:20 is perfect for dancing; the kicks aren't hyped up but contain the energy to propel you!
