Ready for Another Day. It’s raining and bright. And I have my car back from its annual MOT. Been using a hire car for my forays to galleries. So easy and so comfortable. My Devon car less so but much loved. Inspiration. This is a glass perfume flask. Discovered at Nimrud the capital of Assyria and made around 705BC. Inscribed Palace of Sargon - King of Assyria. It was this glass flask that completely captivated my imagination and set me on my path of creating papier mache objet d’art that resembled other materials. Believe it or not this is relatively easy and the results can be stunning. I will show exactly how to achieve this on my YouTube channel shortly. Watch this space. Delftware Fragment. This is a really interesting fragment of Delftware that I found last year on the foreshore of the River Thames. Delftware was first produced in London from 1571 by two Antwerp potters, Jacob Jansen and Japser Andries, who opened a pottery at Aldgate. Making a Start. On the dish that will, I hope be reminiscent the fragment of Delftware I found whilst mud-larking in London. A few layers of Modroc - a plaster of Paris impregnated gauze that helps to establish the basic outlines of the dish initially. Beachcombing. This is exactly what I had been hoping to find on one of my beach-combing forays one day and at last here it is. The perfect base for making the very large dish - now made possible by the discovery on Trefusis Beach of the big faded red buoy that had come adrift from its mooring after a night of heavy seas and strong winds.
