After the main three NachtWacht characters, Smal was the next one I wanted to try and make a moodboard for. So much so that I decided to make it before I try doing Wilko’s.
Smal is a fantastic character. I usually really dislike the typical girly-girl characters, the ones with attitude and makeup/clothes obsession (like Rarity in MLP for example, I loathe her...) but Smal is different, somehow. I like the fact that she’s so full of herself that she literally doesn’t care who loves her and who doesn’t, as long as she keeps hearing how pretty she is, she’s happy.
I love these Kabouter characters, they’re really child friendly with extreme personalities. Like, Smal doesn’t get angry, she gets super pissed and really mad. She doesn’t get jealous, she turns almost green with jealousy. But she’s also sweet when she needs to be and knows how to use her good looks and love interests to do some good.
Technically, this isn’t a Samson & Gert song, but more of a Studio 100 generally song and music video. But I’m gonna gif this anyway so shhh!
This one is lovely. In 2016 Studio 100 celebrated 20 years as active, so of course they milked this as much as they could and made songs for this occasion.
In this particular song they’re celebrating all their biggest successes and most recent things (as well as their most active brands). This includes:
Samson & Gert (1989)
Kabouter Plop (1997)
Piet Piraat (2001)
K3 (2000′s)
Bumba (2004)
Mega Mindy (2006)
Het Huis Anubis (2006)
Maya de Bij (2008)
Amika (2008)
Wickie de Viking (2008)
ROX (2011)
Prinsessia (2014)
Ghost Rockers (2014)
Nachtwacht (2015)
Lolly Lolbroek (2015)
Flin en Flo (2015)
Heidi (2015)
In other words; Pretty much every show they made which made enough money and still was/is popular when they made this music video.
The song is ridiculously catchy. The first time I heard it I had to re-listen to it at least five times because it was stuck in my head! Also, for everyone growing up with these shows I’m sure this whole music video is a fantastic nostalgia trip (and for people like me it’s an interesting look into how many successful shows they actually have made).
The song pretty much go “we’re having a party, it’s fun, dance with us!” as well as counting all the shows present in the refrain. Sing along!
