Hello! I just wrote to say cheers. I recently just read your post about the mistranslations in the FF13 series (spectacularly late, yes). And omg lol. My confusion started with the Yeuls in FF13-2 and now it finally makes sense. I was aware of the differences in FF13-LR but I had no idea by how much and how far back it goes to! It's almost like a different game. Crazy! Again, thanks for that thorough explanation
I’m glad I could add clarity for so many people, but I do wanna say it sometimes feels like people took it a little too seriously? XD I’m certainly not a primary resource for the game. It was a meta persuasive essay like what you might write in an academic setting, but people like...referenced it on the FF13 wiki??? Oh my god??? And some people had criticisms for it (mostly about its apparently arrogant tone or something) which are completely valid because I definitely didn’t represent my “expertise” clearly. I barely understood what meta was at the time of writing. It’s just an interpretation that makes sense of things in the game in a way that provides logical consistency and SOME cultural context that foreign (to Japan) gamers would miss due to cultural differences and...really bad translation errors.
