I selfishly held onto this message in my inbox for years because I noticed it so late that responding felt awkward, but fuck it, this was such a lovely ask and it makes me happy to have received such a question and I’m immortalizing it right now.

I do not sing professionally. I learned to sing doing musical theater and choir in high school, then I sang in choir in university. Now I just do karaoke and hobbyist vocal recordings. Damn I would love to learn to mix audio and write my own music though.

Hello! I just wrote to say cheers. I recently just read your post about the mistranslations in the FF13 series (spectacularly late, yes). And omg lol. My confusion started with the Yeuls in FF13-2 and now it finally makes sense. I was aware of the differences in FF13-LR but I had no idea by how much and how far back it goes to! It's almost like a different game. Crazy! Again, thanks for that thorough explanation

I’m glad I could add clarity for so many people, but I do wanna say it sometimes feels like people took it a little too seriously? XD I’m certainly not a primary resource for the game. It was a meta persuasive essay like what you might write in an academic setting, but people like...referenced it on the FF13 wiki??? Oh my god??? And some people had criticisms for it (mostly about its apparently arrogant tone or something) which are completely valid because I definitely didn’t represent my “expertise” clearly. I barely understood what meta was at the time of writing. It’s just an interpretation that makes sense of things in the game in a way that provides logical consistency and SOME cultural context that foreign (to Japan) gamers would miss due to cultural differences and...really bad translation errors. Anyways, cheers right on back at ya!

I went through like 10 existential crises reading this message and trying to decide how to respond. I just cannot think of a concise way to convey all the following messages, so here’s a numbered list.

1. I am so happy that you are entertained by whatever the hell it is I do (because I do not have communicable human words for it), and I am touched that you would express that to me in this way.

2. I am a hobbyist by nature, meaning that monetizing things I enjoy doesn’t usually lead to happiness for me. So the short answer is: no, I have no Kofi (or Patreon, or PayPal).

3. I absolutely respect entertainment as a trade and the hard work entertainers do, and I support, promote, and commend the notion of compensating entertainers fairly for their services. My general aversion to monetizing my own fun is not meant as a detraction from this sentiment, nor is it meant as criticism of those who do monetize their own fun.

4. I am making no promises about my sentiments regarding this matter in the future. I could someday decide to go this direction, I guess?

5. If you hang around for any of my livestreams on Twitch (currently happening pretty regularly on Saturday nights, 9pm CST, and we’re playing Bayonetta right now), I hope you enjoy yourself. It is a very chill, informal atmosphere as this is primarily just me playing games for my friends and chatting incessantly, but I am very bad at keeping up with my chatroom (I can miss messages easily, misread things easily, or respond very late). Please do not take offense if I appear to ignore you as most likely I just was distracted or riding out some social anxiety.

I'm just here to shower you with love and praise! I love all your "best of" videos for the FFXIII saga. You are the best streamer to watch hands down. Also I think my favorite video of yours was the LR final day where you talked about missing someone who probably was obvious and then plot twist happened.

I’m very glad you enjoy them. :) I’ve archived all my FF13 series unedited livestreams on Twitch (same name, hikamitz) if you’d like to see them before I get back to making montages of the best moments. I even did another half-playthrough of FF13 in 2020 for a little while there.

Hi. Barely.

Sorry to have vanished in the middle of my Twitch montage project, again. Some rough shit went down in my family around the time I disappeared and I couldn’t really get to a place where I could be creative again...or really just maintain any kind of online persona. I couldn’t even look at this blog, to be honest. And this was before the shitstorm that was 2020.

I’m starting to, uh, vaguely remember who I was, am, again. I still intend to finish my FF13 series montages, though I don’t know when. I finally brought myself to check this blog on a whim expecting it to be dead, but it turns out I have a bunch of messages? And I feel bad about that because I don’t even know how long they’ve been here, so I’m gonna respond to them and then probably go quiet again for a little while. But I do wanna say I haven’t abandoned anything yet, just gone on a hiatus for personal reasons.
