HILLZHQ TASK 001.
Are you gonna be like your father was and his father was? Do you have to carry what they've handed down? No, this is not your legacy, this is not your destiny, yesterday does not define you.
father. andrew van horn (richard burgi) birth mother. celia grayson (sheryl lee) half brother. carter van horn (aaron tveit) half sister. amelia van horn (josephine langford) half brother. spencer van horn (brenton thwaites)
oliver was born into a world of chaos, glamour, & deception; his father had a tendency to stray from his marriage, which was how he came to get one of his affair partners pregnant. no one could’ve predicted that the woman would leave him on the doorstep of their family home, handing the responsibility of raising him to his father, the man who was barely a father to the children he already had at home.
oliver grew up as another van horn child, despite everyone being fully aware that he shared no dna with his ‘mother’. his father was constantly on business trips, leaving rebecca with, eventually, four children to raise. oliver saw more of the nannies and housekeepers than he did either parental figure, but he just kept his head down and learned to take advantage of the lack of parental supervision.
perhaps it was the disconnect of knowing that his biological mother had given him up, or the example his father set by chasing money and attention more than pursuing fatherhood, but oliver grew up with firm goals: to become more successful than his father, & to never become like him. he loves his siblings, despite moving across the country from them, & ironically remains closer to rebecca than his own flesh and blood.
after college, oliver was a force to be reckoned with; he moved up north, to a modest house on the cliffs of malibu, where he began building his empire from the ground up. it took ten years of sleepless nights, endless networking at parties, & stubbornly ignoring his father’s offers of help, but eventually, oliver was the sitting ceo of one of the biggest talent agencies in the country.
he still has never met his birth mother, although not for lack of trying; she seemed to vanish after leaving her son behind, something that leaves oliver frustrated that there is something outside of his control. as a powerful man with wealth and status, being told no isn’t his favorite thing.
