Before I met you the anticipation of the afterlife was unbearable. I was thrilled by the idea of my last breath being released from my lungs. I was so curious for death to come and take me. No matter who saved me temporarily they could not replace my desire to soak into the soft soil, with my heart still, my mind at peace.
Every breath I realised was a step closer to my morbid want. Inhaling and exhaling was just bringing me closer to leaving. I wanted to live fast and die quick, then you came along.
Now that I'm with you I hold my breaths a little long hoping to drag on the time I have with you. I can finally enjoy this life and see the beauty of living. For the first time I'm not living for someone either; for the first time I'm living because I want to; for the first time I'm here because I know I'm worth the breaths I take. You're not the one who made my life worth living, that would be idiotic and such a cliche to say, no, instead you did something that is still a mysterious gift.
Maybe you opened my heart. Maybe you're the one with the key. Maybe you're the one that'll stay. If not, you still have given me something no one else could, pure eyes. It's as if I'm a child, as if this is the first day of my life, as if I was never broken before. I look at the world differently because I know you, even though you have done nothing but be yourself. I just wanted to tell you that I adore you.
