okay, I’m sorry this took me like weeks to respond to this, this ask has not left my thought for a moment as I was so taken aback and laughed so hard at it. I’m glad that post reached the target audience lmfao!!!

Kamuhina as an outsider to the ship is comical in many ways as, quite literally, in the lore of what this ship is basically is that it’s shipping the same person before lobotomy and after lobotomy. Obviously the wild fantasy involved when it comes to Danganronpa makes this possible, but nonetheless that is what it is. Adding onto this a lot of the usage in the plot of this said lobotomy by many, including myself, feels almost like a metaphor for suicide in many ways as Hajime Hinata loses so much of himself all for the sake of becoming something potentially worthwhile in their society according to Hope’s Peak Academy. So basically, not only is it shipping the same person after and before lobotomy but said lobotomy practically acts as a suicide in ways in the narrative! So Kamuhina can be pretty perceived in a pretty funny way.

In the Ultimate Development plan minigame for v3 and by extension Danganronpa S, Izuru Kamukura and Hajime Hinata are made to be different people as the lore simply wouldn’t make sense. That being said, I have no idea why in the world they don’t ever have Hajime and Izuru have a conversation. Like, that genuinely has to be the biggest missed opportunity of both of these minigames. It’s genuinely insane I don’t understand why they wouldn’t add in an interaction where they INTERACT IN THE MINI GAMES ABOUT INTERACTIONS!

Kamuhina generally I think is about shipping ones self with ones self after they’ve completed lost themself. They ARE next level selfcest because they are the same person but despite that they are different characters. Izuru Kamukura is Hajime Hinata after he’s decided to give into practically death to mean something in a world that has made him think he will never be good enough no matter how hard he tries. Izuru Kamukura is the victim of the wretched society they live in. How would they interact? You tell me because apparently the franchise doesn’t want us to know lmao.

“You are avoiding me, Hajime.”

“Izuru, I just said it was because I’m busy.”

Despite that, Izuru’s eyes only narrowed even as that frown of his never changed.

“There is more to it,” Izuru said. “I see the way you look at me when you think I’m not looking.”

Hinata flinched, and then, he sighed, running his fingers through his hair.

“Look… Izuru…”

“I know,” Izuru cut in. “I know that I am not a warm, inviting person, but… You are someone I hold in regards nonetheless. When you ignore me or avoid me, I find it…” He was quiet for a moment. “Unpleasant.”

Hinata’s frown deepened with guilt.

“…It’s not you,” he said, sighing. “It’s me.”

Izuru hardly looked comforted.

“Regardless of who it is, our relationship is suffering.”

“H-Hey now,” Hinata stammered a bit. “It’s not like… I don’t…like you anymore…or that I like you any less than I always have…” It’s the opposite of that. “It’s just…been difficult.”

“Difficult,” Izuru repeated. “Boring. I knew that already. I could tell that much easily.”

“Yeah… I know…” Hinata shrugged helplessly. “I’m sorry, Izuru. I’m really sorry.”

It’s not a crush. It’s a complex. And you don’t deserve that shit.

“I forgive you all the same,” Izuru said.

…God, you don’t deserve any of this.

I already got Kamukoma, I’d  be happy to talk about it more but let’s be honest magi I’ve talked to you about Kamukoma so much that it could fill a fucking novel so. I’ll just skip it and move onto Kamuhina.

Kamuhina is...definitely, definitely interesting. I’ve talked about before how I think that Hinata would be someone that Kamukura...would initally have difficulty understanding. Like, he gave up everything - everything! - to become someone with ‘talent,’ and while Kamukura has clearly been indoctrined to value talent very highly, at the same time he doesn’t really value himself that highly and I think he would often look at himself and think.

Really? This is what he wanted?

Of course, he could just go down the path of reasoning that, well, Hinata didn’t know it was going to happen. (I go with he did know he was going to lose himself, fuck you DR3, because I find it more impactful that way.) But even then I don’t think Kamukura could ever, you know, really know.

So I really, really like the idea of Kamukura somehow appearing in Hinata’s subconcious, or some other bullshit way to be able to talk to him - and just. Ask him. Why did you do this to yourself? Hell, he could even be angry with him, because I headcanon Kamukura going through some pretty fucked up shit to become indoctrined and talented after Hinata was erased, and Hinata put him through that, Hinata signed the papers, and yet Kamukura had to bear the actual pain of that decision and Hinata was just...erased and gone.

There’s definitely a lot of potential there, if you’re going with canon. I also like the idea of Hinata being, understandably, scared of him, think of him as a monster, because it’s so much easier that way, to just see him as that. But you know, over time he begins to understand more what set Izzy off and why he became so violent and desperate - and how it was partially because of his choices. That’s the kind of realization and dynamic that provides change for the characters, for the better, and I’m all over that shit.

So that’s, you know, canonically. Pretty much in any other AU, I see them as twins, so even in canon it’s very? Weird for me to see them romantically because I so often AU them as twins.

They’d definitely clash off of each other very well - you can see that in my kamukomahina fics, where Kamukura is often the straight man to Hinata’s angry blustering and frustration. Their dynamic even not taking in their connections and backstory in canon would be interesting - their personalities just clash with each other in a way that’s really really fun to watch.

So I really like the relationship itself - mostly platonically, I mean, I’m open to it romantically - but since I AU and write them as twins so often, it’s just a bit weird to me to try and write romantically. (Though I have done it for requests and friends, and didn’t have too bad of a time :D)

I’m big into Canon Divergent stuff so let’s do this What-If scenario from Chapter 6.

“I won’t let you.”

“Have you given up?”

“What else am I supposed to do…”

“So, then, after everything, this is where you fall?” A pause. “How boring.”

“S-Shut up…” Hinata’s arms tightened around his knees and he curled up into a smaller ball. “What…did you even expect? I’m just a normal guy facing the reality that if we go on, I’m not going to exist anymore. Why continue? What’s the point? I don’t…” His breath hitched. “I don’t want to just…die…”

“I won’t let you,” he said. “I did not bring you back to kill you again, Hinata Hajime.”

Hinata laughed, softly and humorlessly, trembling all the while.

“Hinata Hajime,” he said, and kneels before him. “I am not the one who will be going forward.”

“I-I’m not… Just…leave me alone. I’m too tired. You’re tired, too, right? What’s the point? Whether I wake up or not, what’s…waiting for us…?”

“Our future is not set in stone. You may be killed, you may live. Perhaps you will fall into despair, but…perhaps… You will push on. And if that is managed… Perhaps…things will fall into place.”

“What the hell,” Hinata muttered, shaking his head. “May? Perhaps? Perhaps? What the hell kind of reason to go on is that? So many…are gone, y’know? And we won’t remember this…or her…and it might not even be me…”

“To give up now would be boring, Hinata Hajime. And you do not wish to spend the rest of your days bored. Especially here, beside yourself, cold, alone.”

“It doesn’t matter,” Hinata repeated stubbornly. “Hope, despair, now, the future, none of it matters, it doesn’t, it doesn’t, it…!”

Arms wrap around him, and tug him into a surprisingly warm embrace.

“…It does, Hajime.”

With the tears flowing freely, Hajime held onto the other and sobbed.

“You’re still nervous.”

“S-Shut up…!”

“Why?” Those eyes, crimson and piercing and always capable of taking his breath away, blinked up so innocently at him that it was…something that made him shiver. “The restraints are secure, Hajime.”

“You…could still find a way out of them,” Hinata muttered, flustered. “I know you.”

“Yes,” Izuru says without batting an eyelash. “But this is more for you than for me, correct?”

Correct? Hinata swallowed and wanted to laugh. Correct.

He won’t deny how good Izuru looked under him like this, wrists bound above him, the long ebony strands splayed over the covers, those eyes. He’s straddling him, well aware of the firm abdomen underneath, and his heart is definitely, definitely pounding with heat thrumming through his veins.

“…Yeah… Jeez, who else would it be for?” he asks, almost ruefully. Izuru blinks up at him.

“…I can certainly see the appeal on this side of things.” He arches, just a little, and Hinata sharply inhales. “…Your expression is part of it, Hajime.”

“How is it that you have me wrapped around your finger even when you’re the one tied up?” Hinata wonders, smiling, eyes hooded as he brushes Izuru’s hair back. “You really are something else, Izuru.”

22. Caught in a Storm

“Urgh, just perfect, just wonderful, great!”

With the raising words of annoyance, the thunder outside boomed and lightning flashed. And, of course, the lights went out.

“WOW! OKAY!”

Hinata muffled a scream into his towel. Kamukura, how already had his long hair wrapped up in one with how wet it had gotten, just blinked back at him in the dark. Then, he simply sighed.

“I’ll get some candles.”

“Ah, wait…” came Hinata’s weak albeit grumbled reply. “It’s dark, Izuru. Let me go.”

“I can easily navigate. You’ll bump your leg and get a bruise.”

“Who’s to say you won’t?” Hinata asked sharply. “You’re a talented guy to the point of it being a little inhuman, but even you can’t see in the dark.”

“I can make my way around. I can be careful.”

“So can I. This is my house!”

“I know you’ll just bump your leg, Hajime.”

“I won’t!” And just to prove his point, he threw the towel aside and would have stomped past if–

Lightning flashed. Thunder followed with a roaring crash.

Kamukura’s grip on his wrist was tight. And then, he moved to entwine their fingers. Hinata, for once grateful for the darkness and grateful for the thunder, felt his face no doubt redden as his heart pounded in his chest.

“It’ll be safer if we go together,” Kamukura says, and then, quieter. “Less worrying for both of us, I suppose. Is this a fair compromise, Hajime?”

Hinata took in a deep breath, laughing nervously and tightening his grip on the other’s hand.

“Yeah, it’s… It’s fine… Geez, you were that worried about me?”

“Of course.”

It’s embarrassing how easily he says it. It’s almost infuriating embarrassing how easy this is to say for someone he just called inhuman a while back.

Guilt welled up in the pit of his stomach. Slowly, Hinata nodded, and then, so quietly,

“I’m sorry, Izuru.”

“You’re forgiven, of course.”

14. “You’re supposed to talk me out of this.”

“Is that your plan?” Kamukura replies dryly, shaking his head, “to sound competent and confident with meaningless boasts?”

“T-They’re not meaningless...! But...” Hinata chews on his lip, and Kamukura hums quietly, overlooking his face as Hinata eventually huffs, and looks away.

“...It’s a pretty dangerous activity. Isn’t it?”

“Superficially.” Kamukura hums, looking at the planes above them, dropping skydivers with brightly coloured parachutes, “but, the rush is only instinctive. Truly, it is not dangerous at all. You will be fine, Hajime. Therefore, there’s no reason for me to stop you.”

“-Y-You’re not even worried - !?”

“I just told you, there is no cause for worry,” Kamukura frowns now, looking over Hinata with a slight tilt of his head. “You are displeased...I do not understand why.”

Hinata shakes his head, shoving his hands into his pockets, walking away from the skydiving sign up. “Let’s just leave. I don’t really wanna be here.”

That was peculiar...why was he so upset? He was the one who had suggested coming him, boldly and proudly. And yet, now he was acting like this...

Still, Kamukura sighs, and follows after him, catching next to him and matching his stride, still frowning at him.

“Would you like to do something else? You usually enjoy movies...or perhaps we could drive down to the beach -”

“Forget it.” Hinata says sharply, and Kamukura goes quiet. Had he...said something wrong? He doesn’t understand...perhaps he was too dysfunctional to attempt this dating ritual. It seems he can’t understand enough to partake in it accurately.

“...I apologize if I have offended you.”

Hinata just huffs, but doesn’t snap at Kamukura to stop following him. So he does - even though Hinata walks a long way before speaking.

“...You’re...really talented.” He murmurs, and Kamukura is confused by the statement, but nods.

“Of course...they call me a prodigy for a reason, Hajime.”

“...You can play any instrument...you can write, you have the highest marks in the class - hell, in our entire grade - and you can draw...I could go on.”

“I’d rather you didn’t...it is rather tedious, to list my talents.”

Hinata sighs, then slumps over and sits on a bench, glowering at the ground. Kamukura is still confused and frowning, but he sits next to him, looking at him and waiting for him to speak.

“...You’re so talented...but I’m not...” He shakes his head, and Kamukura jolts, just slightly. “...So...I wanted to impress you...but something like that would be impossible, right? I’m just a joke...even though you were right about it being ‘superficial danger’ ...I was still scared.” 

Kamukura goes quiet. That’s what upset him...? He sighs out after a moment, reaching forward and almost clumsily taking his hand.

“Hajime,” he starts, “you do not have to impress me. You do not have to prove yourself to me.” Hesitantly, he lifts Hinata’s hand to his lips, kissing his knuckles.

“You have my attention, and my eternal affection. Talent, or impressiveness...has nothing to do with that.”

“Izuru...” He flushes slightly, before looking away. “...You really mean it?”

“I would have left, Hajime, if I was not certain you could hold my attention.”

“...I suppose that’s true.” Hinata snorts, “you don’t have patience for boring things.”

“Correct.” Kamukura smiles, just softly, lowering Hinata’s hand, “...now, we can go wherever you desire, but I truly would like to see the beach today. The sunset is usually quite dazzling.”

Hinata’s silent for a few moments, then stands, still holding Kamukura’s hand.

“...Alright. The beach it is.” He mumbles, looking over at him with a flushed look, before pulling him along, squeezing his hand. And, of course, Kamukura squeezes it back, humming softly and thoughtfully.
