i used to love this play as a kid, we had it on VHS and i’d watch it and dance along (i feel old), but yeah the costumes look similar to the original.. it doesn’t bother me i guess cause i’ve seen it before. in 2019 i think they should’ve found a way to modernize it i guess, the original costumes were made for stage and it’s also, like, ancient at this point and back then the uncanny valley things were common. just my thoughts yeee..

I never got to see it but I remember playing songs from the play on my flute for fun lol, especially Memory. I always thought it looked like kind of wacky fun though and the incorporation of ballet through Francesca Hayward is pretty awesome. It’s still super popular - in Japan there’s a theater dedicated to it that’s been playing live versions of it constantly for 19 years! so it’s an oddity but it always has been. I guess visually the uncanny valley aspect doesn’t hit me because it looks so similar to the original
