Last Sunday we volunteered to serve lunch for Eastern Kentucky flood victims in Hindman at the Settlement School. Heartfelt thanks to Beverly Higgins, Magee’s, European Delights and Smuckers for donating (lots) of donuts, danishes and peanut butter. To our best friend Sherrie for volunteering with us. To Ouita, Toa and World Kitchen for organizing. And to Kelsey, Kat and Hindman Settlement School for hosting. To get some idea of what those we’d be serving had recently endured, we watched footage of the flooding the evening before. But, that did little to prepare us for how humbling it was to pull off the parkway, descend the steep valley into Hindman and witness in person the destruction from being completely underwater this quaint downtown at the confluence of the left and right forks of Troublesome Creek had suffered just weeks before. It was an honor to help a few people in person and our well wishes go out to all others we can support in spirit. There’s lots of help still needed and many ways to still participate, visit the @hindmanschool website for an ongoing list of needs and ways to volunteer. In their own words “strength lives in Hindman”, and may that strength help heal and usher in the return of joy @bmitchell620 @mageesbakery @european_delights_bakery @smuckersbrand @s.grahamgreene @ouitamichel @toaandmighty @wckitchen #chefsforkentucky #hindmansettlementschool #lexingtonbakery #kentuckyfloodrelief (at Hindman Settlement School) https://www.instagram.com/p/ChpEoUcOG9G/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
