nah in Gen I it was a key item called EXP ALL that split experience between all six pokemon in your party. the 50 percent thing is sweet though

Most people never got that item though and then they changed it in Gen 2. Should've kept it the same way. This Exp. Share is given within the first few hours and is nuts. You'll love it.
