Day 19 - Hanging Out With Friends
For the entire month of May 2018, there will be one piece posted a day. From there on, art will be posted once a week. Story details are below the cut!
Okay so the idea behind this day was that it was hanging out with friends, but I ended up just drawing them with Slim. He’s basically their best friend and he’s honestly really great so we’re gonna talk about him.
Slim is Razz’s younger brother, their parents adopted them at the same time but Slim was only about a year old and Razz was around four. They took a little getting used to each other but then got really close. Razz was adopted from Spain, so he only spoke Spanish when he was adopted. Of course his parents enrolled him in classes to make sure he learned English, but they also worked hard themselves to learn Spanish because they didn’t ever want him to lose that, so they would speak it around him a lot growing up. As Slim got older he started to realize that everybody would sometimes say things he couldn’t understand, and that really upset him, so Razz started trying to teach him Spanish. At the time, they were only like five and eight years old, so Razz wasn’t the most effective teacher, but Slim can still speak pretty good conversational Spanish when he needs to. There’s certainly no talking over his head in a different language, and he’s certainly got a better hang of it than Blue.
Then, as I’ve mentioned before, Slim was the first person Razz came out to about being trans. Slim was the only person to know at all for a little over a year before Razz came out to the others. Razz trusts Slim with just about anything. Unfortunately, that does tend to place Slim in the middle of Razz’s relationship, but he doesn’t really mind. It gets a little annoying to hear the day-to-day complaints, sure, but there’s not much that’s better than seeing how happy his brother is with Blue.
He’s really close to Blue, too. He considers her his sister just as surely as he considers Razz his brother. There was once, right after he graduated high school, where he was looking for jobs because he took a gap year? and he got a call from Blue, who’s car had broken down and who’s useless boyfriend knew absolutely fuck-all about cars. He had an interview but he blew it off to go help her. When she found out she was pretty mad at him but he was like “oh, yes, let me cry about missing a dead-end job opportunity to help out my sister, of course you’re more important” and she just started crying and he didn’t know why at first but it turns out that was the first time he’d ever called her his sister.
At this point in time, he’s a med student. He wants to follow in his dads’ footsteps, both of them, but he’s pretty trash at anything in the kitchen that isn’t baking. He can bake up a storm, like holy shit his chocolate-caramel lava cake is to die for, but he figured that medicine was a far more stable career than a baker, even with his dad’s connections. His real passion, though, is boxing. He absolutely adores it. Their parents are really big on making sure their kids follow their dreams, which is why they encouraged Blue so hard to be a dance major, so Slim had to explain to them that he loves boxing, sure, but it would ruin it if it became his full-time job. He wants to do that for himself, then he’ll be a doctor for everyone else.
This will come up in more detail later, but Slim has this off-and-on girlfriend that he met at the gym he boxes at. He wouldn’t call her his girlfriend, but he does like her quite a bit. If he had to stick a label on that relationship, it’d just be to say that they were friends with benefits. Unfortunately, she broke off any relationship that did exist quite suddenly, and that’s why this picture is a thing. Slim told Razz what happened and Razz knew he was upset, so he and Blue went over to see if he was okay and he was beating the shit out of a punching bag. It’d be a little while before they found out why this girl up and broke it off so suddenly.
