J. Cole - Cole World: A Sideline Story (2011) In honor of J. Cole's new album coming out tomorrow I thought I would relisten and rate his other albums so I can see where "KOD" ranks amongst the others. Last time I listened to Sideline Story I remember feeling like it was just sort of meh and nothing special; Just sort of average. I'm glad I went back and gave it another chance. It's better than I remembered it Doller and a dreamIII is a solid opening track that sets the basic tone of the album. It shows his passion for hip hop and sets the bar for the following track. "Can't get enough" is just so catchy and the hook is so smooth. Next comes "Lights Please". It's one of my favorite tracks on the album. The beat just has such a classic vibe to it and J cole has such a smooth flow while still spitting bars; and again the hook is just so catchy. It can get stuck in your head for the rest of the day easily. The title track probably has some of the best bars and one liners on the album. I personally found this track to be very reminiscent of Nas lyrically. The beat itself could easily make this song go down as a classic. Mr. nice watch is a nice braggy, and aggressive track with a decent Jay-Z Feature. The streak of good songs continues into Cole world where he has another sort of almost aggressive banger track where he's tellling you how hard he's worked to make it to where he is. It's a success story song. Unfortunately the album takes a major dip in quality around the half way mark in my opinion. " In the morning" is the worst song on the album easily. "Lost ones" is ok for story telling purposes. From there on there isn't really a song that stood out to me. Mostly just sort of average sounding less interesting tracks; especially compared the rest of the album. I did enjoy the bonus song even though it's a cover of a pop song. Overall This project is very good but there's a lot of tracks that could be cut out after the second half.
