#NewMusicFriday #AlbumReview #JCole #4YourEyezOnly I'm a J. Cole fan. I'm one of the few that think his first album was his best. "Cole World: The Sideline Story" is one of the albums that gave me hope for the future of hip hop. Between him, B.o.B, Wale, and Kid Cudi, I thought the game was poised to change for the better. Unfortunately for me, I feel that J. Cole has been slowly deteriorating. Each album is worse than the one before it. I didn't like "Born Sinner", I didn't like "2014 Forrest Hills Drive", and I'm at the end of my rope with this dude. "4 Your Eyez Only" is J. Cole's last chance to keep me interested in his artistry. Is this album good enough to renew my faith in the man? Nope! "4 Your Eyez Only" is basically "2014 Forrest Hills Drive 2" in all the worst ways. Everything about this album is boring. The predictable lyrics, the lame production, J. Cole's tired singing, the plodding place of the album... I could go on and on. Each track is slower than the one that came before it. The themes are exactly what you'd expect from a J. Cole album. Daddy issues, check. Women problems, (not as heavy a theme as before, but it's in there) check... Oh and he had a daughter. That's new, but he even finds a way to make that boring. What's really sad is that J. Cole is massively talented. When I've manage to catch him on a feature, it's some of his best work. His verses on Bas' track "Night Job" were another showcase of his incredible talent! It's just confusing to hear him go so hard on other people's albums, and bring none of that spirit or flow to his own work. This is it for me. I've given J. Cole enough of my time. As open as I try to be with any and all kinds of music, his albums just don't work for me. Fans of his last two albums will undoubtedly love this, but "4 Your Eyez Only" does absolutely nothing for me. Next time I hear about J. Cole coming out with an album, I'm gonna take a nap just like this album wants me to. #MusicNerds #MusicNerdFamily #HipHopNerds
