I meant that Higuchi threatened Misa, he said very directly she was one of the ones that he would kill, so Rem figured convincing him against killing the people he called would be her priority, whether or not she understood much about the process.

Aaaah, I see! I totally misunderstood and thought you were speaking about the first scene in which Rem speaks to Light, refering to Higuchi this makes a lot of sense. Sorry for the confusion!

About the phone records: I assume it is something she learned during the Yostuba meetings. It’s not like they have been discussing only murders for sevral months - I guess some blackmail would have also been in their style. Higuchi not remembering this could be ascribed to general forgetfullness/lack of concentration or just be a temporary “brain fart”.

I’d agree to Higuchi forgetting due to stress, actually, yeah. And the other thing makes sense, too - it may have come up somewhere between blackmailing politicians and dealing with Coil / Aiber....

I always took it that she was desperate to keep him from hurting Misa, and that she figured Light’s plan was for him to keep going, so she just said whatever she thought might change his mind.

Also, by this point she had been on Earth a bit longer and so knew a bit more from watching him and the others at Yotsuba? 

I don’t think Rem would be lying about Misa’s devotion like that, so I will have to disagree with the first reasoning - especially as later Rem also makes admission that Misa is better about handling such situations than she is, which I am inclined to take as her acknowledging that Misa stopping her from doing things like this is the better choice?

And for the other thing I am like... well, but she stayed with Higuchi, who evidently forgot phone companies save records. So he is probably not the one who told her this and how often does this come up in conversation anyway?
