it's late at night, one of the very rare occasions that he couldn't pick up ahreum from the university. he has the night shift for the past couple of days, longer patrols that always leave him weary and tired to the bone — and this very occasion simply proves why exactly. the interrelations at the police force... is tricky lately, too many hushed whispers, money transferred from one hand to the other, pieces of evidence disappearing from the storage rooms. kihwan would be a fool not to notice any of this —- and sometimes, he tends to stick his head too deep into it to pull back safely. he is lucky enough that he is still on the sheriff's good side, but he also knows he isn't above helping those he loves, even if it's not strictly legal.
and in this occasion, he got himself in trouble. he had been trying to track down one of the exchanges that would take place between a police officer and a supernatural, someone he had no information about — and it was soon after that things began to go awry. in the end, he barely managed to get himself out of there without being identified. the corrupt police officer was long gone when he was spotted, but an unbalanced fight between him and the other left him more injured than he would have ever liked, something he couldn't bring to the hospital. he would tip himself off if he did, and kihwan also knew too well that ahreum would be worried out of her mind if she got a clue about what is going on. as he clutched a hand on the bleeding slash on his side, he sighed, and prayed that doyoon would be home.
he parks his motorbike in front of the familiar condo of the vaympire, and steps out on to the pavement. a quick glance at his watch tells him that it is past midnight, but since it's a weekday, he hopes doyoon is home and not somewhere else. truth to be told, he doesn't know what he will do if doyoon isn't there, the stinging in his side has been getting worse exponentially as time passed by, and he would really like some painkillers to begin with. kihwan doesn't think he can stitch himself up, and going home to upset ahreum is not a choice to begin with. a few seconds after, after taking the elevator to the top floor, he knocks on the door, leaning against the wall and trying to look as composed as possible. "hey, hyung — it's, it's kihwan —" he begins when he hears a noise on the other side, a momentary relief that the man is there after all.
